Got the rockers done and had to find somewhere to keep working on it. I have a sign shop in Nanaimo and a small spot it he same complex came available. The landlord gave me a great monthly rate knowing I was just working on the buses. I drove the bus down and came to a couple of conclusions: Getting gas I smashed the front down on a piece of raised concrete. Bus was way to low for regular driving around. Number 2: The bus would barely get out of first gear, had a huge flat spot. The motor was a 2007cc with big heads and dual IDF carbs. The 30 minute drive from parksville to Nanaimo was not fun. I spent a week getting the ride height higher and fitting tires. Could not remove the rear wheels without unbolting the rear shocks and let the spring plates down carefully. I could see getting a flat on a road trip and me freakin out cause I can't remove the wheel. There is a lot more to a lowered bus than you think. Got the adjustable beam up as high as it can go and removed the lowering horseshoe plates at the back. Still playing with it but it is higher now. Need to borrow a set of bus rims and tires from someone to figure out the next step. Got the buses to the new shop!

Figuring out how to raise the front and get the overall ride height better. I could not get a 4x4 underneath it to start so this is better. Before: After:

Spending time on the suspension was a nice break from bodywork. The windshield needed to be removed so I could continue on the front. Was I going to get lucky as I know it can be a problem area.....more to come.

How do you feel about the ride height now Jon? I know in the summer you were trying to get it more drivable, so was that after you raised it up as in your post above?

Wow. I never realised this bus was this bad. To think that I rode in the front of it with the PO! It was very low. Every time he hit a bump it grounded out and you could hear the dug up ashpalt showering the underside. He was mortified when he hit and killed a squirrel - with the front bumper....

The ride height is fine now. Might try a little tweaking but no asphalt grooming.....Next step is to try and mount some stock rims and tires to see what its like and see how it drives with a stiffer Lt tire.

He said that he had welded some sacrificial tabs to the bottom of the beam, to avoid damaging the beam itself. They must have dug some impressive grooves in the road, because we felt the road a lot on that cruise!
