I've got four Beetle alternators, two Bosch two Empi, which need to be checked and/or rebuilt. Is there anyone on the island that does old-school alternator rebuilds?

Given that you have built high level cars from scratch, pretty sure you could handle a lowly alternator... There isn't that much inside them to do...

And, yes I agree it's probably something I should be doing at home...but then I'm going to want a com-cutter, and all sorts of speciality parts The projects list is also growing like you wouldn't believe, and now that Taylor is up here my time in the shop has shrunk! (It's a good thing though ) She's back into her artwork though, so I've had some time to clean and organize for the coming winter.

I always assumed you were. Congratulations! Oh I am. Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear...I was merely getting at the fact that over the long-haul, the commitment of marriage seems to take more time than I ever imagined. Not that I am really complaining though. Life is what we make it

Just passed the 50 year mark last month. Time flies when you're having fun.
FYI it's been proven mathematically that time goes faster the older you get. Eg: a year in the life of a 10 year old is 10% of their life, a relatively long time to a kid. A year in the life of a 70 year old is 1.4% of their life, really a short time period which goes fast. Stan

So you're saying that it's better to be 70 in the year 2020 than 10? 2020 has been pretty awful.

Yes I guess 2020 has been pretty bad. Not the worst year in modern history though. Dec. 7th 1941. Aug 19 1942, 1918 Flue Epidemic killed an estimated 50 million people world wide. My mother was 10 in 1918 and told me many times about her vivid memories of that disasterous year. She lived on Prest Road in Chilliwack then, and by the spring of 1919 every family with the exception of hers and one baby from a neighbour on Prest Road had died of the flu. The only reason her family lived was because of her oldest sister who was a nurse and stayed home to nurse her family back to health. No one in those days dared to visit anyone else because that particular flu was so incredibly contagious, so it wasn't until the spring that people started to move around and check on their neighbours horrified at the carnage they found in their neighbour's homes. A whole surviving generation was permanently scarred by that one. I'm sure it even affected my generation by way of my parent's experiences.
This is bad enough but it could be a whole lot worse. Stan

Stan Yeah sure...you can tout mathematics all you want, but the reality of it is that because it takes an 85 year old 25 mins to tie their shoes when it used to take them 2 mins, time seems to disappear faster. It is all relative...and time is a constant, health and mobility are not. Dec. 7th 1941. Aug 19 1942, What is(are) the significance(s) of these dates? How do the bear on the 1918 Flu?

Well, collectively 1941 and 1942 were pretty crappy years, mostly due to WWII, and 1918/19 were also pretty crappy due to the Spanish Flu.. Don't know much about WWI cause my 3 uncles who were captured and spent 4 years in muddy trenches and a disease ridden concentration camp wouldn't talk about it to me much despite me asking them numerous times.
Those times were orders of magnitude worse than what we're dealing with now, despite the economic blow by. Hope you all bought airline and cruise ship stock last month. Stan

I have cruise ship stock that I wish I'd sold last year. I wouldn't touch cruise ship stock right now and I know the industry. It might come out well, but there is also a good chance that it may not. I'll be surprised if all of the big lines survive this mess. It will be a long recovery for those who do.
