Front floor sides(corners) extending down to mount for front bumper sides, behind front wheels(big one on Bays), inner and outer rockers, frame near torsion tubes…to name a few. Eyes peeled!

Check the chassis by the rear torsion bar mounts, the inner chassis up behind the front axle, and the front axle itself. Then the usual rockers, doglegs, battery trays, outriggers, cross-members, well you get the idea.... If you are real unlucky, you may even find rot in the roof gutters... Don has some pictures of chassis rot on here somewhere...

looked at that bus today. kinda rusty, battery tray, rear quarters, dog legs, left rocker. doesn't seem to be structural, just cosmetic. engine rebuilt in 94. been sitting for 3 1/2 years. he's not sure he wants to sell it. its been in the family since 74. I asked him to talk to his wife and call me. so we'll see.

to be realistic your probably not gonna find one up here that doesn't have cancer some where.(unless its imported from a dry region or$$$$$). that said, i would rather see the original rust issue then deal with repairing some hacks 'mop and glop" body job that hides it . if the bays take off in value like the split vans, your investment in mig wire and grinding discs should prove a good return on investment. if you really want a dry bay, get Don to hunt for you,he seems to know where they all are!!!

For anyone who is interested, there is a poo brown early 80's (chrome bumper) Vanagon Westy parked up behind "Next" home furnishings on Wellington Road, near the Wolf / Wave radio station. I didn't get a photo. The body looked reasonably good from what I could see, but it was getting dark. There are no licence plates on it and I recall seeing it there a few years ago. I am fairly certain that it is has been left to die, along with numerous other, less desirable vehicles and other junk. It is in a locked compound, so you would need to go into the store to ask about it.
PS, don't ask the store owner to sing....
