I’m just getting back to reading this forum. Yesterday, my wife and I dropped her Ghia off to a film shoot in Vancouver. We received a call from ABC Disney asking if they could use it for a new movie they are producing, (which is pretty cool), but they need it for 5 months! We only had it for a couple of weeks…;-) oh well, more room in the shop now to focus on other things.

I actually spoke with the previous owner of your Ghia around a year ago and she had absolutely no intention of selling it. She was driving it as her regular vehicle, had done so for many years and couldn't see any sense in buying a modern vehicle. It looked very complete and although it needed some work, looked well maintained and pretty decent for a regularly driven vehicle. I gave her my card in the hope she'd contact me if she sold it, but hey, I really don't NEED another car!
Glad to see it in the hands of another enthusiast.

hey, good/bad news that your Ghia is on her way to being a movie star! The bad news of course is that since you've only had her a few weeks you're going to have to wait awhile before spending more time with her. She'll have some stories to tell, though when she gets back. Very cool! Interesting to hear from CrazyBrit that she was a daily driver. I didn't realize that. She's a real survivor!

It was an estate sale so I never met the previous owner and it’s obvious that was a daily driver. Apparently it will get a few cosmetic touch-ups before filming which is a bonus. Performed well in big city, ferry traffic.

Are you working with Jovan for the movie shoot, or who?

It was an estate sale so I never met the previous owner and it’s obvious that was a daily driver. Apparently it will get a few cosmetic touch-ups before filming which is a bonus. Performed well in big city, ferry traffic. Im really sorry to hear that. She was an elderly lady called Georgina. I bumped into her last at Thrifty Foods in James Bay. She had owned the car for a very long time (1980s I think) and it was supposedly pristine when she bought it. She carried her walking frame in the back seat. She told me her friends had encouraged her to buy a modern vehicle, but she loved her Ghia and didn't want a modern vehicle with no character. It has had a few minor skirmishes in its time and apparently someone keyed the top of one of the fenders in her apartment parking lot last year. She used a local mechanic in Victoria for all of her maintenance and was talking about having the rust bubbles on the rockers repaired this year. It is definitely well used, but looked very complete, well maintained and original. I would have happily bought this car from her. I'll be posting the work on my 71 Ghia's rockers on this site over the winter, so you'll get to see a very amateur view of what is involved with repairing the rust on these cars. Those bubbles come from the inside out and where there is some, there will be more behind it. Ask me how I know... Enjoy the car like she did. It was great to see it cruising around Victoria whilst I have been working down here.

Thanks for that important info. Good to know about Georgina and her beloved Ghia. We were told the owner’s name was Georgina and so have nicknamed the car Gigi as a sort of homage. Georgina was quite meticulous about recording/saving her maintenance receipts throughout the years and the file folder is thick. I’ve been under the car and noted the rust and years of road rash and it’s not too bad actually. I’m quite familiar with the way rot worms it’s way into a car, as I have several projects presently on the go and have rescued several from the scrap heap over the years. Eliminating all the rot in my bay window bus was a huge undertaking and I don’t what to do anything to that extent again! We’ll just enjoy driving the Ghia as is for now, as I’ve promised my wife, that since it’s her car, I won’t tear into it like I have done with so many others. Thanks again for the message and hopefully we’ll meet in person some day. Cheers, Don

cool to see you two have connected. Two cool car guys- both with amazing Ghias and vans. And who both do really top quality work. I am envious of both of your hard-earned collections.
