The bearings only are available in this size Due to my case being bored out Going back to standard size on the crank By going to standard size the only bearings i can get to fit my bored out case , have a 2mm thrust which i will have turned down at Thompsons machine shop . I am on a learning trip with this repair being schooled by a lot of people . This is one area i have had no experience , I have done top end work in my 73 Westfalia . Maybe someone is pushing me from beyond , my grandfather was a machinist , and showed me many things and ways to solve problems . I wouldn’t be surprised if it is him !

Any one use a filter pump . Trying to install but it needs longer studs . Pulled them out and will see if i can get some . My question is wether this will prevent me from using my stock exhaust ? I will , on Monday go to Thompsons to take in the bearing to get it turned down 1mm on the thrust !

don't bother with the filter pump, that has some oil restriction, plus on a bus your rear engine support maybe in the way. go full flow now that your case is apart, very simple to do your self.

Thanks for the info I was thinking of the beetle while i have it apart . I could port out the filter pump a bit to aid in flow , i run a mini sump with the filter in the base , thought the filter pump was a protective upgrade ? The beetle was running kinda hot so i was adjusting carbs , when i took it apart the oil pick up tube was not installed correctly sitting on a angle there is a tab that goes under one of the studs that hold the stock filter plate in place ….. hmmmmm So undid the nut and correctly installed it So thats why the oil light stayed on !
