Run it on a full tank of Chevron Supreme and see what it does. The Fasty isn't quite ready for a long trip yet. Got to fix all the electrics first. Have been driving it to work this week and it has been fun!

I think I am down to 1/10th ownership at this point and have already used up my drive time to date by driving back from Chapters the other day

Ha-ha, I am glad you think so Russ. Nobody I know could have fixed the problems you have been able to fix. That Fasty was lucky it found you!

Still haven't had time to get to the bottom of the exhaust leak, but I noticed that it does run much smoother and quieter when fully warmed up, which I think reinforces the idea that it is probably an exhaust thing. Now for the brake job on the other bus

Here's a nice look at the bus heater/exhaust system. I believe the exhaust leak is happening somewhere around the right side J-tubes. And below, I thought someone would have come up with one of these. A J-tube by-pass. You could always team it up with a gas heater of some sort.

I have an announcement to make, ahem...I FIXED THE EXHAUST! Woo hoo! I prodded a bit more around the J-tubes and there it was, one of the studs on number one was loose enough to wiggle by hand. I removed it from the engine. The nut was really on there so I cleaned and oiled it a bit and put it back in the motor assuming the nut was probably in the right position anyway. The other number one nut was a bit loose too, they both snugged up very nicely and I could hear the pipe matching up to the head. The other side seemed OK. Funny, every exhaust bolt that loosened has been on the passenger side. I crossed my fingers and started it up, sounded great in the driveway but how would it be accelerating down the road? It ran like a new engine, finally I could appreciate the new Bugpack muffler and exhaust gaskets. What is amazing is all that mechanical clatter I was hearing is completely gone. I had read that exhaust issues can sound like a lot of other problems. I suspect this exhaust leak had been building slowly for a few years, and I thought it was simply the aftermarket exhaust.

The nuts securing the manifolds to my heads on the Riviera seem to keep coming loose. I'd tighten those up on yours first before taking everything apart. They are just a sled plate removal away and it might be a good way to see if that is indeed your problem. Unless your gaskets are blown out, but I don't know enough about that to know if it actually occurs Don, good suggestion. I did notice the one bolt on the right side of the manifold (where the noise is coming from) I had to use for the Bugpack bracket arm was a bit easy to undo, perhaps there are others. My exhaust had always been a bit loud, I thought it was my old cheapo Empi muffler. It's funny how an exhaust leak can sound like other things. Thanks for the input guys Thought you had tightened those up already?? Glad to hear she's nice and quiet…..Ninja-like
