Hello
loose front end over 65 km#h
More than just a tire balance
Is there anyone that can diagnose and then tighten everything up?

I'd suggest Bavarian Imports in Nanaimo. I know one of their mechanics. He's somewhat fastidious and is an aircooled fanatic...

SuperBeetles are notorious for twitchy front ends. Check your inner control arm bushings first.

Perhaps Klynnt at the counter was having a stressful day, as we all do sometimes. Like CrazyBrit, I can endorse the workmanship and the people at Bavarian, but they are more "old school or 'time-y'" and perhaps don't have that refined nature some have come to expect from doing business with places like dealerships. I would say that when you are "the independent little guy" trying to make a living competing with the "big dealer machines" it is often the case that niceties and slickness sometimes fall by the wayside. Try not to let that put you off. I can say that behind the sometimes blunt feeling from the front desk there are some real talented mechanics that take their job very seriously and want to complete it to the highest standard. Maybe persevere, get to know them, and I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have been in Nanaimo since July, 1999 and have always taken my VWs (both air-and water-cooled) to Bavarian. I have nothing but the highest praise for their service and advice. Both management and employees are of the highest calibre. As noted, some of us have off days; that in itself should not put you off. I believe most of us are looking for the best possible service/parts/advice for our VW children and IMHO you cannot do better than Bavarian Imports Auto Repairs. (I have owned VWs since 1958.)
Disclaimer: I have no connection with any sales/service association dealing in Volkswagen automobiles.
[abject: 1) miserable; wretched (as abject poverty). 2) lacking self-respect; degraded] ---hmmmm?

like everyone in the service industry you get some bad days, its tough out there for sure. Klynnt is a super nice guy and you probably caught him on one of those days. I ll always be greatful to Bavarian for the odd times where I needed help. simple tune ups.....etc. Things I m somewhat unable to do in my parking lot. they ve been able to help me get my car fixed and more importantly look after my car whilest its in their capable hands.

I used Fountain Tire for my Bus alignment. Their customer service was excellent. I paid just over $100, although I forget the exact amount.

One of those technology things shops get away with Yes, I have witnessed that with tire shops too. Also, when you get new tires and have wide 5, they charge you for mounting and balancing when they don't have the equipment to do the balancing!! But they never tell you that in hopes you won't clue in. However never had that experience with Bavarian nor Cedar Tire

Yes, my GMC Sierra just had wheel alignment....and they charge for all 4 saying that they have to put the equipment on all 4 to line it up, even though the rear axle is solid with no adjustment!

don't blame the shop or techs!! most newer alignment machines require 4 heads to be installed for a 2 wheel alignment. i wont complain about this much however and you shouldn't either. when you install the heads on the wheels, the machine checks to see if any rims are bent and wont allow you to continue until they are straigt, next it triangulates the axles to the frame and to each other, showing any set back or other issues with the frame, axles or other components.a good alignment tech that keeps his eyes open can spot worn spring eye bushing/shackles,loose spring u bolts and diff mounting issues just by the read outs supplied by the heads on the rear wheels (yes,on that non adjustable solid rear axle). i had a new client that asked for an alignment even though our competitors had already done this 3 times at three different shops.our machine picked up a rotten subframe that was allowing the axle to move freely in turns and under braking just enough to rear steer the vehicle(the front angles where bang on spec). the two head machines didnt pick this up or the bent right rear rim.you can now see how valuable this info is.... THE PROBLEM is how the shop charges for the alignments. the way i billed out the alignment was a flat rate for an alignment inspection including a visual and the machines printout, and then either a 2 wheel or a 4 wheel adjustment depending on how the vehicle is equipped and what adjustment are required. this way the client only pays for what is needed and the shop gets paid for the work that is being done. Fair and no ones getting away with anything......
