is.... that a mustache?
nice score BTW Don!
Maybe, as I eluded to before, I wonder if it will qualify for a Movember Bus? Will I have to shave it off after?
Well, it either a moustache or the tail of a diving whale
Thanks Paul
Don, that looks really good after it's wash - almost too good to paint over that original paint and patina.... I'm actually digging the groovy seventies stripes. Very Bee Gees. If it's not coming to the show on a trailer, you might have to arrange a bit of post show viewing!
Sadly Mark, it is not original paint. It suffered a poor respray. I haven't taken a good enough look to see if the stripes were put on later or what the scoop is. Funny how people hated the stripe on the green Bus and people love them on this one. Perhaps they serve to break up that Beige and give a feeling of "back in the day"
So I got the Westy home and worked at the process of making her run. Russ kept wrinkling his nose every time he passed by the fuel filler along with muttering "Gonna have to drain that gas". I was really not looking forward to that part because even though my olfactory sense is negligible, it still works a little. But if I was going to take the tank out without dropping the engine, drained it must be and the out must come a bunch of stuff on top of the engine.
Battery falling thru the rusty battery tray…
Other side with leisure battery isn't too bad
In total what it looked like at almost the start of the procedure. No cleaning just yet
A bunch of stuff removed. The seal was totally gone and fell out(or was vacuumed out, in chunks. The next step is the firewall removal. There are a few hidden screws the Bentley doesn't even elude to. In fact the Bentley makes this part sound very matter-of-fact
But it does come out to reveal the tank behind
That does NOT look good!
Once on the stands I started looking in earnest for the bolt threads on the underside
A few more things had to come out before I could even gain access to even see the threads, which I guess is not a total necessity, but it sure made things a bit easier!
A-HA!
Looking thru the U tube of the exhaust on the left side
Gotta keep it from spinning with nobody to hold it. I am glad I took the wire brush on the dremel to the threads and then soaked them in Mooveit.
Success on both sides
Then the smelly part. Cut just the main line first, then later the return line. Both right at the tank.
And I managed to keep from sucking any into my mouth thankfully.
The filler didn't look so good
Already ripped
Everything had to come out here so I could gain access
Tipping towards me turned out to be the key in getting the tank's tubes clear from the hole in the body. Then it needed to sort of pivot counter clockwise and come out on the left, over the engine. I didn't succeed on my first few attempts at doing this other ways…
Then I discovered more fuel…ugh!
Finally!!
Lastly….avert your eyes….
Haven't had a go at cleaning it yet, might just try and find another…….
Would I do tank removal like this again? …..Not if I can help it
Was it worth getting out? ……..Yes, but I have no idea how to get one back in! LOL
