Finally the wheel alignment has been done. There was a bit of a problem however. I had earlier replaced one of the tie rod ends with a new reproduction. As is so often these days, the repro wasn't made quite right and had less threads on the shank than the original one did. And this caused a problem when the toe in was being set. There was barely enough threads to allow this adjustment to be made, but was able to work in the end. Now it steers fine despite having bias-ply tires. Going to drive this car much more now...

Ripper. It's a classy little car. Will be perfect for some summer cruising.

Here is something you don't see everyday...
He wasn't that impressed at first...
By the end of the drive, he reluctantly admitted that it was kind of cool afterall... Kids these days...

I'd have given my left arm to learn to drive in one that nice! I learned in my 1303 and thought that was cool, and that was a long time ago when Beetles were still a relatively common sight.

I learned on a 59. I thought I was pretty cool. Looking back, the car was cooler than I was. Man that car looks nice out in the real world. B

The '62 survived its first long trip in five years, and performed fine. These cars were made to be driven flat out on the autobahns when new, and can still do it 55 years later! All pictures are now restored to this thread...

It was finally a nice sunny day and I had a bit of time. Gave the car a quick check over and discovered a slight fuel leak from the removable pump cover. Tightening up the securing bolt seemed to fix it and then the tires were pumped up. Didn't go all that far, but it was certainly nice to get it out for a little cruise. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to go somewhere in it this summer...

Well it is Beetle time! Last year the poor old Beetle only came out to play once. Let's remedy that. Charged up the old six volt battery and out for a rip. As mentioned above, I was monitoring the fuel pump for any leaks. And sure enough after a fast-ish cruise down the parkway, it was slightly damp on top of the fuel pump. This is the older type with the removable top, which I undid to access the built in filter. And it turned out the plastic filter element was badly warped and putting uneven pressure on the metal cap. A quick check over of my vast dead pump collection, revealed a matching candidate. And the filter under the cap was in excellent condition. So a test drive tomorrow will confirm if I am taking this car to the Victoria show this year... Don't they make a good pair??? Love driving both of them for sure...

what a beautiful car and colour! I have made a note of the colour and am thinking it might be just the right colour for my '60. Thanks for the inspiration!
