Sorry for the slow reply folks. I've been out of town and trying to get my wood stove installed before the snow hits the fan.
Let's do this thang. I'll put a post up in the "gatherings" section so we can discuss best dates, times, and pizza toppings.
Thanks for all those willing to make the drive!

I think you need to start a thread in the "Gatherings" section Byron. Paul mentioned he would be willing to pass along some welding skill tips. Maybe with beer, pizza and some "dues" we could convince him to come up to your place for some real world examples and those interested could make their way there. Maybe on a weekend evening? Just a thought…. i'd be down for that. my welder is a 110v, so just point me to a plug. Pizza would be cool. I'd need to make sure i can juggle my schedule on wednesday night. does anyone have an extra welding helmet? I will need to be using mine (to show and watch) and i only have one. i figure a 7-10 timeslot would work for me. I'll bring up some metal (and misc welding stuff) to practice on / with, or we could do real-world welding on something. someone would need to prep though. Any chance this could be done on a Sunday afternoon? It would provide more time for those of us that come from further away. I have a helmet I can bring. It is the auto-darkening style. I like the idea of real world welding. Maybe Byron could prep, otherwise I will get a trailer and bring my Saab down I suck at practicing because I get impatient thinking it doesn't mean anything. If it means something I tend to take my time and pay more attention. But that is just me

That's a great idea Don. A welding workshop on a Sunday might be better. More daylight and less time crunch. I've been having a hard time finding a Wednesday night that will work for all the grinding and noise that we will all be making. My shop is below my dance studio. Our get-together would probably not be compatible with the Belly-dance, Yoga, and choir that uses the space on Wednesdays.
I have one helmet and I'm certainly willing to share.
I'll check with the wife on Sunday availability and post a "gathering".
Thanks all! B

weekends are too tricky for me (young family = swimming lessons, etc). sorry i figure we could get a solid 1.5 hrs of welding time in if everything is prepped. With two helmets, i could get it setup, hand it over and walk each of you through what is going on.

A-ha, yes young families do take time and a ton of energy, absolutely understood Maybe if anyone north of me is interested in taking in a Wednesday we could meet at Coronation Mall and carry on from there in the fewest cars. Just a thought. Byron, if you could pick a selection of days and then coordinate one with Paul, you could post up in the gatherings section and we could progress from there. Sound like a potential plan? Prep that hood in the meantime
