Thanks for posting that Andrew! I am pretty sure if there is an event always on the list, it's your show down there. Great location, people and fun times. Buy your hot dogs early! Sorry, elephant memory, lol!
Looking forward to it, just hope I can have a vehicle ready....

Up early for a great day of VW activities. As usual we arrived at the Nanaimo Rona to meet before heading down as a convoy.
Eight of us made the trip down together. I was in the GTI, David brought his Vanagon Carat. Mark and his Dad cruised in his '57 bus. Gerry brought down the '55 red and white Beetle, High-Top Rob was naturally in Big Blue. Jason and his wife in the '65, Brett and his wife in his early '60's Beetle, and then we met up with Brian and Don who cruised down in Brian's '72 Ghia...
Some of us did not make it down in the cars that we wanted to take... My '66 engine is not ready yet, Don's '70 single cab sprang a master cylinder leak, and Reagh's '68 Double cab ("Crewvy") decided the time was right to start leaking gas from the fuel pump... But we all made it down there in the end. Here Reagh is modeling an original Victoria VW Club T-shirt from around 1990. Nice. Rob is enjoying his hot dog as well. I didn't want to miss out on the dogs this year, and was one of the first in line and had already powered down two of them when this picture was taken...We all found at least a few swap meet items to buy as well. Clay had a large stash of items for sale and his pile seemed to have grown by the end of the event... I bought a couple of decent '66-'67 hubcaps for cheap as well as a horn button. Don found a type 3 windshield in nice shape, and i spotted a set of knobby-ish tires I thought he might need. And apparently he did... Tom found a couple of interesting books/manuals, and I later managed to acquire one of them, a book on vintage rallying modifications for your Beetle by Peter Noad, one of the UK's well known rally drivers of the '60s. Cool book, and thanks Tom, I owe you one...

Now onto some VWs. This Type 3 Karmann Ghia was looking fine. This car has been a regular attendee in the past, but has been completely redone.
Look at that classy interior!
Hard to believe this thing was faded black and ratty looking the last few years...
Not any more... And there is Brian's Ghia in the background too.
Brian's '72 was looking very nice in the sunlight. This is the first show that Brian has entered this car in since completion.
Brian enjoyed the show as well as the drive. The car ran great with lots of power from the 1776. He was smiling most of the day...
You know I approved of the tires on this Ghia convertible. Mmmm, whitewalls...
WestCoastPaul's '72 is amazing, and really needs to be checked out in person to see what he has self built. Very nice!
I am pretty sure Brent has seen pictures of this bus, but I know he will approve.
David enjoying some healthy food outback of his Carat, while the rest of us pigged down hotdogs and chips. David's Vanagon has been very well used throughout its life, but you would never know by looking at it. He won best Vanagon by the way...
There were lots of Vanagons this year, and many very nice ones. Their owners are passionate about their VWs as well...
Just a group shot of the Beetle variety. They have an actual trophy given out to who can put the most crap up on a roof rack. Some people take this quite seriously too!
Don loves any rally inspired vehicle, so this "Salzburg" replica did it for him.
Looks like Mark's bus is getting a little attention from the judges.
Jason and his wife chilling out while waiting for the buyer. Hope it goes to a good home.
Every time I see Tony's old split Beetle, I have to say "why did you ever sell it???"
Don't remember this Super with the yellow lights before. Bet the cops love that...
I have not seen this Beetle out for a number of years now. I like those Marathon rims. That is not this Beetle's claim to fame however. This one has a mid engine conversion with the engine in the back seat and the trans turned around backwards. I never did ask the guy why...
As usual, no shortage of Beetles at this event.
Ok. I don't like split buses. And don't like customs. So why did I like this bus?
I really don't know, but it just did something for me for some reason...
Not much in the way of buggies this year, but this one is nice.

Gerry seemed to be enjoying his day out with his Beetle.
This black '67 is Steve Brown's former car. Steve is a friend who I bought the GTI from many years ago. Although it is nice the new owner of Steves' '67 is enjoying it, why did he put four lug disc brakes on the front instead of the proper wide fives??? Probably cost I would imagine...
The interior is still very nice. You shouldn't have sold it, Steve!!!
A first generation Golf is always a nice thing to see. Keep in mind this was the Beetles true successor...
A '69 Type 3 in Diamond Blue. I have GOT to get mine back on the road again! Only problem is I want it to be perfect, and that takes too much time and moola...
This early GTI was original-ish. And I quite liked it.
I love those tartan seats in the early models. Shame the Mk 2's dropped this feature.
These two are typical of what eventually happens to 99% of the GTIs ever built. Nice they are, but not what I would do.
And this is what I would do. One of the last unrestored original GTI 16 valves in existence. And will stay that way too!
Now this is more like it. Chrome instead of cheesy plastic bumpers. The way it should be. Nice oval!
This '58 sunroof was a new build that has been documented online.
Everywhere you looked, was clean and well detailed. Nicely done.
Hard to believe but that grey Golf is red, and the purple Jetta is black. The wonder of modern wrapping technology. Is getting more tempting all the time...
And finally, it was another ending to another show, and time to go. Mark and his Dad rigged up a temporary decklid standoff to try to lower the temperature on the way home. He still had to stop at the top of the Malahat, but otherwise made it home unscathed. His Dad told fascinating stories of the fun he had picking up this bus for Mark when it was originally imported to the UK. Quite the adventure...
Anyway I hope you all enjoyed the show if you were there, and if not hopefully this pics will help. And most of the cars visible in the backgrounds of these pictures, can be seen if you look up last years photos on this site... Now time for bed for me!!!

Here are my Volksfest 2018 photos, let's start with following Chris into the show after registering on the other side of the park this year. It was fun driving over that grass field
The bus is framed nicely between 2 different but equally nice Beetles This is setting up, though it could be taking down couldn't it, can't remember his name but I think I bought a few manuals from this guy including a Bentley Bus manual with, according to Russ, the all important COLOUR wire diagrams. $10...score! Is Notchback Don posing for this one?
HTR has done some nice bodywork on his '73 highttop, always nice to see this daily driver at the show... Above, a couple from the lower mainland who bought this bus from someone else in Canada who in turn had imported it from Sweden. This is apparently the original factory paint job that was special ordered. Above right, WCP's handy work continues to amaze with his bespoke bay... Not sure who owns this bus but it has been to the show before... This one reminds me of Brent's old tintop, I should have bought that bus... I love the "2WD" insignia on this custom Westfalia from the mainland, a very clever re-imagining of the bay window bus. This reminds me of a custom Hot Wheels bus, you know, the ones you'll never see in real life
Above, random shot captures some of the action at the show... This Harlequin has been to the show over the years... Early in the show at T-Shirt central...
Everyone loves to share in the Bus experience!
There's that mechanic from Nanaimo again, he was hanging out at Hightop Rob's roost... ...and there is HTR chillin' in what was unofficially the Nanaimo camp...
Custom shop from the mainland...
Either they are really good at making their bus look lived in for the show, or they actually traveled to Volksfest The unique Taylor-mobile! Volksfest random shot... So many conversations so little Volksfest time... Organizer buses... Above, that Beetle on the left is really low!
This is a very interesting split Beetle, I'll bet Russ knows something about it...
A Doka still being used for work...
A very original looking '73 (I believe) Westfalia...
Here we see the show winding down... The Nanaimo crew discussing this and that... Above, the Brit-mobile! An interesting shot looking toward the beach... Brian's Ghia makes it's long awaited debut, beautiful car...
Trying to improve cooling for Crazybrit's bus...
Above left, blue and white '66 bus recently acquired by a VVWC organizer, great to see another air-cooled vehicle in the family! I agree with Don, this one is cool, time to make some vroom vroom noises...
And there we have it, as always time went by way too fast and I should have taken more pictures and talked to more people. However, I did spend a lot more quality time with MIACVW members this year.
