My dad lost his license this winter and I am now driver elect for getting things done with his car. They still own it because it is the best vehicle to get them to and from doctor appointments etc.,. So two days ago he needed me to drive his car to Mazda and retrieve his summer tires he was having stored at the dealership. We got held up in that accident and re-routing thru Cedar had us arrive about an hour late. We were then informed that we had to wait for about 3 hours to change the tires over. Oh Man! 3 hours, really? It wasn't worth putting up too much fuss, so we just had to roll with it. First we decided to walk to DQ for an early lunch burger. That was a fateful decision. As dad got his coffee I sauntered outside and a bright yellow number out on the lot caught my attention. I was certainly NOT looking for a car, but somehow I was pulled out to get a good look. Turns out it was a car that I always thought was good looking in a bright colour(but had never seen a yellow one). And there it was, a Scion tC. As I was to learn later, it turned out to be a special tC, the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Release Series 7.0 model of which only 2200 were built and only 175 of those were brought into Canada. The Mazda dealership guys had no idea, and the price was probably 2/3 of what it could have been....so it really piqued my interest. In fact, my wife had to "shush" me when I started telling the sales people what it was, lol! After a crazy fast test drive by me and the next day a more demure one by my wife, we were both smitten. Anyway here is the 6 speed number as seen on the lot: Russ Victor and I took it for a boot around tonight. I never thought I'd like a newer car so much, thus the "dark side" title, but considering my age and that these cars were marketed to teenagers when new, the MLC car is more than appropriate. The spate of non german cars have appeared in the Volktales vicinity

Don always was great at driving slow cars fast. Now he is an animal behind the wheel and irritating old ladies everywhere!

Nice! I had a Hyundai Veloster as a rental a few weeks ago...shocked at how much I enjoyed it. Even caught myself looking at Craigslist for one! Enjoy the TC. Toyota reliability...and perhaps worth a full restoration 30 years from now

Nice car!
I think you need one of those bean can exhausts that the kids have. It will help you fit in with the right crowd.

Watch out and sell it before it rolls around to 299,999km. I'll keep my eye out for a bright yellow streak whizzing down 4th Ave Don. Stan

I am trying my best not to "whizz" much faster than the speed limit as I have been reminded that the fines can be crippling. I did pull up next to a duded-up Subaru on the hwy at a light(I was in the "slow" lane) coming back from Russ'. He noticed the car as I nudged up to the "line". You shoulda seen him take off popping his turbo. I just watched him go. I am sure he woulda whipped me, but I did find it kinda funny.

OK, I see the way it is. Here's a lesson my son taught me when in a similar situation. Give him a quick glance, lips pursed, with left side of lip curled up in a look of clear contempt, followed by an infinitesimal shake of your head, then turn away and never look at him again. Pull away normally. The result should clearly show that you consider him lower than a snails trail, and he's not worth the effort of you stepping on the gas. Maybe if he had a 911S or maybe an Aston Martin Valkyrie he'd be worth your attention. Stan

Stan, I think your years as a teacher has allowed you to develop "the look".... I am gonna have to work at it . I am pretty sure I wouldn't be worth the attention of any 911(never mind the S) or AMV, and they would no doubt have "the look" perfected, LOL! That said, the car is very fun to drive and sounds great even from the inside . It sure is a departure from my Single Cab, which is the complete antithesis of the Scion, but maybe that is what still makes the SC fun to drive

Hi Don.... My neighbours son has a Scion tc parked outside his place for lengthy periods of time while he works in the oil patch. How can you tell if it's a trd series 7.0 or just a plain jane tc? Stan

NICE Don! …….😎 I think it's time for Volktales to rebrand , maybe Toyotales or Hontales? Hmmm. "AcToHontales" would cover the fleet of Acura, Toyota, and Hondas... Or how about "RisingSunTales". Or given the fact I like cars from both Japan and Germany; "Axistales?" Uh, scratch that last one...
