Don't get rid of it just leave it in the woods and when all the lost in the Swedish forest busses are gone they'll come looking for this one!

When this was towed out of Nanoose, they towed it with the rear lifted and the front on a Dolly. I made sure to get ahead of the tow truck on the highway, just in case I didn't hold together. As it was going down the side road there were chunks of moss flying off all over the road.

So looks like the boys are getting "tanked"! Rob has been trying out some fuel tank sealer... Looking good, and he can explain how this was done...

I asked Russ to post this just in case anyone might think about sealing their gas tank instead of buying a new one. The latest project Ray and I are working on has a super low budget and we needed a tank for it so we thought to try POR15 tank sealer ($45) which turned out extremely well except for the couple spots I missed swishing it around. The tank looked like the rusty area that you can see in the picture. I started off by putting a large chain in the tank and swishing it around to remove any particles and rough spots then blew it out with compressed air. On the can of por15 it says stir well and I did exactly that but still ended up with little chunks that I had to break down that were left in the can after I dumped into the tank, my suggestion to anyone thats going to try this is to dump the can into a larger container and stir the crap out of it before putting it in the tank. The stuff is farely thick so I had to swish it around slowly so it oozes over the whole surface. So after draining for about half an hour let sit and dry. I accually had enough to do two tanks which it did, I prepped the same for both. It says 4 days to dry. I spilled a bunch on the concrete floor of the shop and had to use a hammer and chissle to remove it the next day so I know it sticks really really well. So after all is said and done I am quite happy with the results, but time will tell on how well it works. So there ya go 250 for a new tank or 45 for sealer, your choice

Thanks Russ for posting those patchwork pictures. Our latest project started out as a parts storage bus. Russ's good friend Brian had a customer that wanted to get his 79 panel bus refreshed, and back running after many years parked. It needed a complete engine rebuild or replacement and all the other necessary mechanical repairs to make it roadworthy. It also had the typical rust issues and lots of dents and scrapes. When Brian explained the "todays" cost of engine rebuilding, the customer decided to simply send it to the scrap yard. Therefore Brian asked Russ if he knew anyone that might have a use for this derelict carcass. The standard solution was to call Reagh and Rob, and see if they wanted to add this to the acreage collection as another storage container. Naturally the answer was "yes please and thank you". So the previous owner agreed to donate it to us, instead of crushing it. That's when things got a little more complicated for us and Brian. Being a forward thinker, Russ knew Brian's plans of taking his recently acquired Red bus (from Russ) on a cross country trip in the near future. So he suggested that Brian might want to replace the 1800 with the fuel injected 2L from the 79 panel, before it became a storage container at R&R. Brian agreed with the suggestion, and commenced removing the seized 2L and 6 rib transmission, and all the related fuel injection components. 2 days later Reagh and Rob happily picked up the carcass, and yes Tony, we made good use of our little trailer again. Once it was home and inside the shop, a full inspection of this 79 panel bus was done. Long story short, we decided it would be a great R&R service bus, and that we had enough spare parts to put it all back together. We also had most of the spare metal parts for the needed rust repairs. Sooooo the project is underway and we hope to have it ready for this coming summer. We will forward some progress pictures to Russ for posting on this thread, as that is technically way above our pay grade. Thanks again to Brian and Russ for thinking of us, instead of crushing it. Wishing everyone a fun filled and healthy 2022.

That looks like quite a decent bus. Way better than I usually find!
If anyone is considering scrapping a Ghia in that condition, please think of me!

Great to see the effort going into this Bus. Not a lot of "Commercials" get love, but this one is! So are the plans to paint it Neptune Blue? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink LOL

I couldn't say "patina" because that would infer rust and it looks like you are making short work of making that disappear. Kieran … I hope I spelled that right? I could never spell, nor say it right for that matter(sorry K)....
