Thanks for the pics of today's event. Just a reminder for those of us heading down island tomorrow. We will be meeting up at Rona in Nanaimo around 7:30 am. And then leaving around 7:45 am. Once reaching Ladysmith we will make a quick stop in the Lordco parking lot just South of town. This is to allow one of our group to pick up someone and meet with those coming from Ladysmith. And then on towards Victoria. Some have expressed an interest in taking the Mill Bay ferry, so some may split off from the convoy at this stage. There are various ways to get to the show location, so the convoy will probably break up at this point when people like me get lost...

I made it home! The bus ran well, other than the generator light glowing at me out of the dashboard like an evil eye! Thanks to everyone for their usual support.
I took the Mill Bay ferry back. We were told it was full and three vehicles ahead of me turned around, presumably for the Malahat (including Dave, owldlvr). They then surprised me with a space for my little bus parked sideways across the stern.
After the ferry I only saw one other old VW - Dave as he blasted past me. Then Dave again at the traffic lights in Chemainus with bright orange flames shooting out of his exhausts! Very spectacular. I pulled off the highway and parked, thinking he was having issues and might need a push or maybe a fire extinguisher, but he was gone by the time I parked up.

Hopefully owdlvr didn't light any fires with his afterburners on his way back to Port, LOL! Glad to hear you made it back okay, Mark. Too bad the day was so stressful for you. Maybe next year will be "third time's the charm" for you Nice to see all today. Wish I had my truck, but Brian's Dorper was a smooth ride down, as was Russ' '62 Beryl Green on the way back. Congrats to everyone in attendance, and many thanks to VVWC for hosting a great show! Cheers!

Well that was a loooong day! But generally a good one. Actually was successful at getting pictures off the phone and into IMGUR relatively painlessly today. So lets have a looky... It was all Beetles at the start as we met up in Rona's parking lot. Nice to see a new face or two as well... The trip down was largely uneventful for most, and once settled in it was time to shoot some pics. Nice to see Darren brought his new '65 down and he said it cruised great! Rob F. brought down his self built '59 Canadian Standard model. He did all the work on this including body and paint... Rick arrived in his sweet '67 Beetle. And I brought the mighty '62 out for a good run. Hasn't see that much action since the Seattle show back around 2018... There were lots and lots of Beetles this time out. This is a '64 I think... The Perfection gas heater shows this is an original Canadian spec car, too. Gas heaters were standard Canadian equipment starting in '64... Everyone who knows me knows I like stock(ish), and hate patina. So this one floated my boat... Strato Silver has always been my favourite 1950's VW colour so you know I liked this one too... I kinda liked those graphics on the door bottoms... I know some of you are SuperBeetle fans, so here you go... This one was billed as a rare "survivor" Euro '67. And it was. Some pretty interesting period correct mods going on in there. Original dealer tag was cool too. I wouldn't have been able to extensively modify a "survivor" car like this, but then it ain't mine, is it??? Here is Brian admiring Dave's famous rally Beetle. Nice to see him out in it again... Did not spend much time in the water-cooled section this year, but this was a clean Mk4... Mk 2's are more my thing, and there were a few nice ones. Definitely not as common as in previous years... Nice to see these cars appreciated be a younger crowd, though... Used to work on Audi's like this all the time. Most have been recycled now... One of those funny painted Mk 3's for Reagh... I think these might be the ONLY Mk 3's anyone will save in the future... Just a couple more... This is a VW Lupo. And I kinda liked it... Continued...

Now some parking lot finds... Not really a "late model" guy, but did not mind this bright orange Beetle. An early "round tailight" BMW 2002 is always appreciated. I have never seen one of these in person. A very rare Jensen CV8. Bit of an acquired taste... And, um, this Nissan was a bit "special"... And look who we find out in the parking lot, but the famous HighTopRob, with his beloved Fasty! And who is next to him? None other then Reagh in his beloved Notch. Now why are these fuel injected 1969 beauties not in the show??? Because the organizers felt it necessary to close the gates to those who were unable to arrive by a certain time. Not cool at all and I assume they had a good reason for doing this. It was not like the show field was full up as there was LOTS of room in the sparsely populated water-cooled area.... Rant over... This Beetle was sorta outside the show, or was it? Nice anyway. Continued...

Back in the show proper, and here is Rob's fine '56. He had an uneventful trip down and back, so that is a good thing in an old VW! I didn't recognize Brett's Beetle at first, as he swapped out the rims for the stockers. Looked good to me! I think this Ghia was the one recently listed for sale with an ugly aftermarket grill stuck on the front (now removed), but feel free to correct me if I am wrong... I have not seen this Fasty in person before, but have heard about it. The build quality was high. Those early Beetle headlight conversions were always controversial... Interior was pretty fine as well. Car is a sunroof too. No, it not THAT Don... His would say SAABS by Don... Think this sunroof Beetle was a 1970. My favourite year for the late Beetles. Spent many a year behind the wheel of mine... The Greggmobile saw a lot of mileage this weekend, as he was down for the cruise as well. And he had to work tonight too! This black oval was new to me with a rally-ish theme going. Maybe everyone wants to be like Dave... I love bright colours, and this orange bug nailed that department... Continued...

Now you all should know I don't know diddly about the splitty. So here is one... Liked the colours on this one. This one passed us on the way into Victoria. Sounded very smooth as it went by... Liked this one's Orange Crush display... Wonder if Don is missing his old Iltis yet??? Have not seen this patina Fasty before... There really were a LOT of Beetles this year... Continued...

This Oval had some patina going on, but for some reason I liked it. Turned out it was a Canadian Standard model. Those seats and door panels are from a later Deluxe car, though. Another shot of Rob F.'s and Darren's Beetles. Cool. Rob's Beetle shows of a bit of it's Canadian Standard features... There was a swap meet as usual, and Clay was out there selling his wares. Another stall had a neat 1200 manual, and Don made me buy it. But I am not complaining. Another seller had this neat old radio (an earlier hobby of mine), but I was able to resist... Lance had his newly don bus on display again. The fresh green paint really pops on his bus. David brought his Westfalia Synchro. He is contemplating more power for his other Vanagon Carat... Brian got one of the best spots at the show, and we all enjoyed the shade. Hanging out with HighTopRob, Don, Frank and his Mini-Me. Those chocolate mini donuts supplied by Don were quite delicious, and I may or may not have made a bit of a mess while eating them... Another shot of Rick's '67 while the show was winding down. WestCoastPaul had his bus and trailer on display. We wish him well with the sale of this sweet combo. There were not many dune buggies this year at all. And poor Mark should have had the hard luck award, as his charging system failed on the way down to the show. Despite his valiant efforts, it would not play nice and he had to go buy a new battery to get him home. Thanks to Frank for giving him a ride to the auto parts store... Mark's luck did improve a bit later, as they squeezed him on the Mill Bay ferry and he did not have to wait. The rest of us did wait, but that was ok because the sea breeze in the shade was relaxing. First time ever for me on this ferry... First in line and first to get off the ferry. Left everyone in the dust with my mighty 1200! And just like that we were home and the day was done. Hope everyone had a good time and we will be back next year as always... As an aside, all these pictures were shot with my new phone. What do you guys think? Time to permanently retire the old Canon???

The phone pics look great, and probably more convenient than dragging the old camera along most times. Thanks for taking the time to post all the photos!

Back in the show proper, and here is Rob's fine '56. He had an uneventful trip down and back, so that is a good thing in an old VW! But wasn't it eventful at the show? What I mean to ask is, didn't Rob's ride come home with some sort of award? Maybe he'll post a pic?

Hello and thx Very nice to talk with some of you at the show and ver fun on the drive down , we had a good time glad I brought the sun shade . On the trip home after trying to stay ahead of Greg the Grey my car started to make weird noises coming from what I thought was the transmission , sounded like a bag of marbles . The sound got really bad but limped it home , and will try to diagnosis the problem. Don’t know how to add pictures here so …. Nice to see all
