You really need to get your old car inside, or there'll be nothing left to restore. The later steel really doesn't seem to hold up like the early stuff!

I'm glad you pointed out why you were modding your OG Tonka...I was shocked to see you ditch the stock wheels. I thought I knew you! I have a couple of cars from when I was a kid, but nothing VW.
Awesome job on the builds. I'll have to consider doing one up.
Thanks for the post! B

Just thinking outside the box. Love the resto Tonka bugs, as they bring back fun memories to just about everyone that's over 30. So I will donate a complete "real" beetle that Russ can "resto-mod" it to look like a Tonka toy. I think it would be a blast to take both the toy size and real size to our island car shows...just to be completely unique, and see what reactions would come from the general public and VW enthusiasts. I make the offer, knowing that Russ has sooooo.....much spare time, and loves unique projects. Comments....

Actually, I hope to do up my original 1970 rust bucket Beetle to replicate my latest Tonka. Mind you some red line tires would give me the vintage Hot Wheels look, and that appeals to me too. If only my '70 wasn't so damn rusty! And of course the Savannah Beige project is destined to be bone stock... I real need to improve my welding and bodywork skills!

By the time I finishall the metal work on my 74 bus, I should have enough experience and confidence to give you a hand on some of those back yard bugs. I look forward to being able to help you for once.
It sure would be great to see Savannah all tidy.

Well I have to work my way through the fastback first. After the Honda is done, that is... I do like dreaming about my first car, and hoping it can be saved. I wish I could store it out of the weather but... A: The VWs in the garage are much nicer, and B: The bottom six inches of the car is rotted out anyway, so a little bit more won't hurt. It actually has not deteriorated too much in the 16 years it has been sitting outside...
