Last minute I was reminded of visiting family obligations I had agreed to also, so I really couldn't have made it. However I am curious too. Anybody win anything with cars, ahem maybe Westies, that we know about??

Made it out to the GCVWS this year, although only for a short time. Unfortunately that means not many photos, and not many photos of individual vehicles (sorry!). I did manage to take a few, I think my dad took more so maybe I can steal a few of his photos and post them if no one else has any to add. This was my third time at the GCVWS, although there were definitely a lot of the same cars there that there have been in the past, it definitely seemed a lot bigger than years past. Tons more water cooled VWs and beetles absolutely everywhere you looked. I don't have quite the same eye as most of you fellas here, my apologies for that. Maybe in time I'll be able to pick out the real gems. Anyway, hope you enjoy. The Victoria group and some of their buses My personal fav...funny how I have a 78 Dakota sitting in Don's garage.... This bus came all the way from France! Owners shipped it over and have been traveling across Canada and will soon head south to Florida before heading home! Jay's beautiful bus that Don worked so meticulously on. Spotted the thing a mile away and couldn't wait to see inside. What a beaut! In my opinion, the nicest interior there. Not sure if it picked up any prizes, maybe Jay can comment. Every time I walked by he had people asking him about it. Any plans to take that fastback of yours camping, boys??

Those are AWESOME pics Claire! Thanks for posting!! Looks like it was a great show. Stealing pics from your dad would be great, but not all that necessary because you captured the feel well. If that is Matt Van Boven's Single Cab, it sure looks great with the gates on. And what happened to the popping the top on the green Westy I wonder? Would have had nicer light inside. Sure the canvas isn't the greatest, but what the hell, we all have blemishes…some are just harder to see than others, but they are there because perfection is not possible! The Fasty would be tad cramped to camp in, but I guess people owning VW cars back in the day did it when they couldn't afford the posh Buses! But, no Claire, there will dare I say never, be plans to camp in the Fasty That is what I own a Bus for(no comments from you Mr. Camper Brent ).

Without further delay ... TA DA!!!!! As previously mentioned by Claire, there were many in attendance that were amazed by Don's great work and attention to detail. The two judges for the Westy's category had some very kind words after the judging had been completed (Among other details, they particularly liked that the original stickers by the driver's side door were kept intact). It was good to meet Claire and Paul (Bespoke build). Hopefully they will have their rides ready for next year's show. I am looking forward to watching their builds over the next few months. Once again, a big THANK YOU to Don, Russ, Laurie and all others who had a hand in getting this beautiful bus in the condition it is in today.

Thanks for the great pictures, Claire. We will have to make the trip next year and look forward to seeing your bus there too! Congratulations to Jay on the big win, and to Don for finding and doing the resto on that bus. Looks like it was a great turnout, and a great day...

Never thought I'd be a member of the "a bus I put my hands to won an award" club. But there it is. I hope it was worth it Jay, congratulations!

It was a great show. I have a pile of photo's, but have just finished a 9 hour shift plus 3 hours of computer work. So, I'm not up for uploading them tonight....
I even managed a couple of bargains. A nice, near mint chrome KG headlight rim for free and a pair of new Bus / early Bug Wolfsburg West quarterlight catches for $10. The swapmeet area was good and extremely tempting, but as I left the car in Nanaimo I had to make do with what I could carry on the Skytrain and transit bus. I did drive the KG to Departure Bay though! I was glad I left it behind when I saw the two sailing wait to get home!
