This may look old, but is actually a 1972 Canadian Custom Beetle with earlier fenders, lights, bumpers, etc. It is an, um, "project" at the shop...

This one was for sale for very large bucks. Have not seen it since. For Rob, one of the highest hightops I ever saw! One of our customers has owned this Carat forever. It is very trick nowadays. Been getting this thing "driveable" It is bagged and has an 8 inch narrowed beam. The girlies seem to like the extra long "eyelids" too! More pictures of the South African Beetle Features king and link front suspension, swingaxle rear suspension, wide five drum brakes and right hand drive. The tailights are very bizarre, and did you note the reflectors on the front?? the grey beast

Somebody has been deep in the back catalogue... For those that don't know, the grey Beetle is now owned by Gregg. When that early picture was taken the owner at the time thought it was worth $16,000! And that was way before Rob did a bunch of improvements to it to make it much nicer...

Check out this monster at the shop this week... This thing is a BEAST. Volkswagen LT 45... Doesn't look that big in the picture does it? Look again. Compare it to the LandRover parked in front! Don would approve of the big narrow-ish knobbies. Note the use of offset drive axles with reduction gears on the back. And the front too. This thing is very hard core and very well used. Note surprisingly, me (the old man of the shop), had great difficulty in climbing up into this thing! It is equipped with just about every item you can think of for WAAAY out in the bush camping. Brent is probably drooling a bit.... Meanwhile I have a feeling I might get stuck working on this gem...

Compare it to the LandRover parked in front! With that lift it certainly looks like it belongs out in Cedar(not trying to ruffle feathers, I liked living out there). For the size comparison to be fair, that is hardly what comes to mind as a Land Rover Don would approve of the big narrow-ish knobbies. Narrow off-road tires are underrated on this continent. Note the use of offset drive axles with reduction gears on the back. Unimogs have portal axles. I don't recall this axle type as being on the LT's. Perhaps this has transplanted Mercedes Unimog running gear?

The owner has mounted a tent trailer on the back! Top marks for originality, it even has a snorkel, please tell us more about this unique vehicle. I would love to see it at the next MIACVW show or Volksfest.
