I'm working morning shift, so for the second year in a row I'm out😐
With any luck I might see a few of the Vancouver cars travelling over.

Conflicts with my kid's grad festivities this year, so not me. I might be up for the cruise on Friday night, it's supposed to be a lot of fun.

Sooo, we managed to get up bright and early (actually dull and early) and headed North to Qualicum beach. Dad took Victor in his Ute, Don took Brian in his '65 Shorty, and I followed up in the Restfalia with one student, and my nephew from Taiwan. Somehow we managed to avoid rain on the way and amazingly the weather held at the show site. No rain fell at all during the show, but it was damn cold with the wind chill factor! The show however was great as usual, with lots of things to see. There is no way I can keep my eyes open long enough to load the pictures tonight, so you will have to wait until tomorrow for that...

It was heavy drizzle pretty much all morning out in the Straits. I saw some nice hot rods and classics heading south as I headed home at 3pm. That was about the extent of the show for me 😐
It's a good thing I like driving ships.

So, thanks to social media, I heard you made it up, and were actually having lunch in the bus during this pic. Heck, that's pretty close to camping buddy .... Guess the photographer didn't realize how special that vehicle in front of you was ....

Too bad you couldn't make it up Brent... Would have been neat to have your "Monster Wiviera" parked behind Russ' Resty. The "ascending" order would have looked cool Some good looking vehicles out this year. Russ took off right away, after the pancake breakfast(yum!) of course, and filled up part of another memory card(gotta get the pics before the swarms of people arrive). I didn't even get a chance to see some of the cars, so I will be interested to see what the pics look like. Tony's ex Splitty was there in fine form, a new-to-me well done and kept 57, the nicely preserved 62(?) 23 window were all spotted among others. I did get a chance to take some cell phone pics of a few of my faves and a cool lighter-than-velvet green Riviera camperized tin top in the parking lot. I will post pics later too....

Here is a few to start things off.
Here we are in the "staging" area. Brian came up with Don in his '65 shorty.
Brian was very happy in the truck at this point in time. This was to change on the drive home...
Now onto a wide variety of cars. As this was not a VW show, you will see a lot of "other" vehicles. Enjoy. The above is a 1940 Ford woody wagon.
A 1968 Camaro SS. My mom once owned an RS convertible in white with red interior and 327 engine. Why did she ever sell it???
This '68 Firebird was nice. Always liked them. A different Firebird at the show contained the rare OHC six with one of the first timing belts seen in production.
This Pontiac featured an LS7 with big ass turbo.
Nice '61 Buick was in the owner's family since new. His mom was going to trade it in about 1974, but the dealer only offered $200 for this mint condition car. So she gave it to her son instead, and he still has it!
I almost once bought a '64 Impala SS almost 30 years ago.

Nice '34 Ford. About the only hot rods that I like are the traditional style...
Never seen a Lancia in person before...
'71 Cuda 440 Convertible looked pretty mean. I think this car won a prize as well.
One of several F body Camaros in attendance.
Very nice '39 Ford Deluxe.
Nice to see a '63 Acadian without the usual monster V8 stuffed in it.
Surprisingly my kid liked this big Plymouth Satellite 383. I think he has been watching similar cars in the Fast and Furious series...
This old Chevy truck had beautiful body and paint. Everyone was goo goo over the slammed look, but the necessary mechanism to operate it filled the box and made it useless as a truck...
This Bel-Air was more interesting then it looked. How about a big block 396 and 4 speed, and original paint and interior. Very nice shape it was in.
Ok, finally something air-cooled! Sadly it was not a VW, but one of those REAL Porsches. This 356 was looking nice, other then I really dislike those original, yet nasty looking over-riders. While I was standing next to it, the owner had to explain to visitors that "No, it is not a kit car"...
Much more to come later tonight...

As seen on a newer TDI
A VW! And the full on 23 window Deluxe Microbus too! The owner usually makes it to this show each year, and amazingly this is the first car that he ever owned too!
A nice early Dodge Dart convertible.
This is NOT a real Porsche, but looks much nicer with the Euro style bumpers. At least you could drive it without freaking out that someone might damage your "investment". Incidentally the owner of the real Porsche needs to get his brake shoes relined in California, for a cool $600 US...
You just can't go wrong with a '57 Chevrolet. One of many at the show...
An old style Model A Ford hotrod.
A '67 Mercury Cougar like my old one.
Another vintage style Ford hotrod.
One for Clay, an Oldsmobile Cutlass 442.
How can the driver see around that monster supercharger???
I have always loved the big Ford Galaxies. This one is a '66 and is huge.
My friend Terry in the background, with his wife Patty selling magazines and other related merchandise. Terry produces Canadian Hot Rods magazine, right here in Nanaimo. Recommended if you are into that scene.
Really liked this '61 Chevrolet "bubble top" as they are referred to nowadays.
More to follow...

And there I was, paying attention :-D I think that '69 442 is out of Powell River, he made it to the Duncan Show last August. Beautiful car. Thanks for posting up the photos for those of us who couldn't get there.

More VWs! Tony's former '53 Beetle was there and looking nice. The current owner has done a lot of work to the car and is continuing to source more "correct" parts.
Spare wheel toolkit is a nice touch.
Engine is looking good.
Next to the '53, was another oldie, a '57 Canadian Standard Oval window. This one was quite original as well.
The interior seats and door panels had been redone, but that steering wheel is correct for the model. The owner has a few other VWs, including a nicely restored orange Thing and a slightly modified '65 single cab. He also owns a highly modified drag car, based on an early Ghia! Don't worry, as it has been a race car since the early '70's...
Early Jimmy was slightly lifted. Are you jealous, Brent???
Late bus was , uh, interesting, but got a lot of looks.
This Canadian only 1960 Frontenac, was obviously Falcon based. Extremely rare and made only one year. Cool.
Also liked this '61 Chevrolet wagon. Even my kid said he would "roll it".
Mind you Victor said this was his favourite car at the show. Yuck. If you care it is an extensively wrapped Nissan GTR. Might be fast, but BLAH!
These Opels GTs were once relatively common, and I remember seeing them in the 1970s.
Another VW, this time a 1959 that is a regular at this show.
And there is the mighty Restfalia. You can't beat taking a bus to a car show, because there is much more room for junkfood.
I always liked '58 Chevrolets. My dad told me he almost bought one of these brand new. He intended to buy a fully loaded Impala convertible, but decided on a used '55 BelAir convertible instead. Which naturally he customized the second he got it home...
Dad brought his Ute out again. Currently still his favourite, although he cruised to Penticton earlier in one of his T-birds...
A nice one family owner '70 Cougar. The sign stated that this is the most desirable of the early Cougars, but that is incorrect. Everyone knows the '67 was the best year ever. Did I mentioned I used to own a '67???
Another nice old truck, this time a GMC. I really need to fix up my old '69 CST/10 like this...
Another Beetle, and this one was for sale too. A '79, and still featuring its original fuel injection. Didn't get the price, however...
Still more to come.

And here is Don's shorty in all its glory. Lots of people asked lots of questions about his truck. If was fun listening to people tell there partners that it was extremely rare and one of one when Don was not around... The shorty was naughty however on the way home. Don was staying up in Qualicum for dinner with his wife. He asked Brian if he wanted to drive it back to my place, where he would pick it up later. Brian was very happy to drive it back to Nanaimo and I was going to follow him. Except he was going too damn slow on the highway and I passed him! Turns out there was a good reason he was going slow. Its seems the drag link started to fail and he was having extreme difficulty with the steering! At least he made it back and now Don has to fix it! Looks good sitting in my back yard however... I liked this big '65 Impala. Did you know GM sold over 1 million Chevrolets in 1965? That is because they built good cars back then, not crapboxes like Cavaliers. These wedgie Toyotas were desirable in the 1980's and there are still a few around. This is the full fat Supra version with twin cam inline six for power. A good friend of mine had the cheaper GT5 version of one of these as his first car and we had a lot of good times cruising in it. Here is a bit of a rarity, a Nissan Pao. These were a speciality retro car produced at Nissan's Pike factory in Japan, for the Japanese home market. Although based on the lowly Micra, the demand for these limited production cars was so high, that Nissan used a lottery system to sell them. They later produced the Figaro models, as well as those weird S-Cargos. This example has a lot of modifications and received a lot of attention. Is a 1990 for your info... Early Chevy II with a small V8 was an all original 24,000 mile car, and it was obviously in exceptional condition. For sale too. But it was a boring colour. And only $66,000!!! Even the hard core GM guys were shaking their heads at that price... Another retro style hot rod, this time the classic '32 Ford. When I was a kid, my dream car was not a VW. It was this, a 1957 Tuxedo Black Chevrolet Nomad. Except "mine" would have had fatty whitewalls, red interior, and the fuel injected engine of course... Good words to live by. As seen on a Camaro. Of course. And finally, another VW. This '62 has been coming to this show for some time. The owner has tried to keep it original as possible and it shows. He intends to bring it to Volksfest in Victoria this year, so you can see it for yourself then. Well there you go, another Qualicum show is history, hope you all enjoyed it... The weather better be nicer next year!!!

Some cell phone pis of my own... The late-comer 67 Riviera Camper Bus One for Franc Different shots of the Pao, nicely done! Not much of a bike guy, but this one was undoubtedly cool! One of my favourite mash-up trucks

Thanks for sharing. I started heading up there but was discouraged by the rain. Got as far as Canadian Tire. Would of been fun, maybe next year.
