Since the sudden unexpected loss of our precious little Smokey in late October, I hadn't given much thought to getting another friend for our other cat, Cleo. But then the grief subsided somewhat and we started looking. Online I found numerous possibilities for a mum cat ex-stray like Smokey was, or possibly a kitten to make introductions and home-life more of a possibility. But most of those turned into duds because the rescue organizations required us to keep the new addition inside for the rest of its life to "keep them safe" and "because they might run away to be strays again". I consider this unfair for a living creature to have to endure, plus Cleo and Smokey were both strays and because we show them love and respect they actually want to stay inside with us(and they have their own cat door unless fireworks are on or it's Halloween). Anyhow, I won't go any further with my tirade/rant and suffice to say SPCA turned out to be the way to go. I looked daily online and missed more than one possibility. I did visit a few locations and older cats, but they didn't seem the type that could work with our Cleo. But then the SPCA in Port Alberni turned up having kittens and one Tortishell that wasn't claimed in the 2 hours she had been on the site. So I jumped in my car(because they do not hold animals without a meeting in person) and made my way to Port ASAP. I consider myself lucky and I ended up succeeding. So how is all this VW related?? See bottom pic... Smokey and Cleo in my truck following last year's Volksfest In Port Alberni there was this photograph hanging on the wall...

Cool. I wonder where that van is now? Congrats on the addition. So where's the cute kitten photo? It would be interesting to find out where that Bus went. Probably buried with some hippie surfer dude in it near Tofino Hope not, lol! Russ said I have to her on/in a VW, but she's too young to go to the garage. Here she is anyway

Uber cute. Congrats. How are they getting along? Stan Surprisingly well for such a short time. The hissing has pretty much stopped and now Cleo only gives "love" taps. I am hoping they might even end up playing a bit. Cleo needs the exercise. Cleo has stopped caterwauling at night since the arrival, so I'm taking that a good sign. Lucy, our dog, even is liking the kitten and they have already played, as much as a kitten and dog can And what are you calling him/her/it? Stan "It" technically, now she's spayed, but she's a she. Tricolour (calico and Tortoiseshell) are almost exclusively female because it is a sex-linked genetic characteristic. Naming has been difficult, but she reminds of a Mink, so presently it's Minky. We have also toyed with Chi Chi because the Salish name for mink is Tche-Chee-Ken, and that doesn't roll off the tongue too well. Then there is Harlequin, or Harley for short, because she has a big motor for a small frame

Nah, call her "3-way" cause everybody loves a 3 way and she's a tri colour after all. Cats also love unvoiced interdental sibilance style fricatives "th" cause that's what their hearing is attuned to. Especially when it's a digraph. The second syllable "way" is a soothing euphonious sound that a cat should love. Besides it'll be a great conversation starter. Stan

Don't take too long picking a name. Our friends couldn't decide and every time a new name was suggested they said "maybe". Eventually the cat started responding to Maybe and so it stuck. Their other cats are Deadliest and Fat-Fat. My wife asked to intervene when their first child was born...

Don you should've stopped by for a visit. Sorry Boris. Figured you'd be at work. I have some things to return to the SPCA(their blanket bedding and carrier which Minky doesn't use), so I'll be back. PM me where you are and a current phone #
