For those who have pulled and rebuilt engines , what would you suggest to include on a "must do" list while the engine is out for someone who is undertaking this for the first time. I'm at the point where I've bench tested for compression and satisfied with the readings . I'll be checking crank end play , installing oil seal , clutch disk , throw-out bearing , serviced cv joints. The engine is a 1600 up right dual port for a '71 Westie. Any tips/suggestions are appreciated .

what about the pressure plate. plugs are easy to do when engine is out.you could retork the heads, check around the oil cooler for leaks. and paint all the tin.

Thanks for the reply . I looked over the clutch plate and it appears to be in good shape. My plan is to be able to bench start the engine , hopefully if there are any issues with torque and oil leaks , they'll show up then. I have some questions re my carb. which I'll explain on another post.

I would be doing a valve adjustment too, if you have not already done so...

Yep, it's on the list. I guess my fear is that I'll have it back together and installed and find that new flywheel o-ring still in its package hanging on the wall.
