Sooo, my Grandma was somewhat of an artist in her day, and used to paint pictures of birds, flowers and landscapes. She would also cut out pictures from newspapers and magazines for painting inspiration. Although my Grandma has been gone for a long time now, her scrapbooks have still survived, and my Mom thought I might like this picture. I did. That Beetle looks to be about a '69, and was likely fairly new when that photo was taken (Nixon was the current president according to an article on the back). Wonder how scratched up it was at the end of the trip???

That's awesome! I may need to use this photo for an instagram post, if you're okay with that?

That's what bugs excel at, roads like that. That reminds me of some of the old logging skid trails Chris and I explored in our 66 Beetle around Quesnel in the early 70s. Every so often I'd have to jump out and roll some big rocks off the trail that I judged were too big to drive over, and the odd tree had to be cut (we took the little homelite 99 chain saw with us cause it fit in the well behind the back seat. I put a piece of 1/2" plywood and a pillow covering the well and our little heinz 57 dog lay on that wherever we went. Sometimes if it got too rough she'd bounce right off it and land on the back seat. Stan

As a kid I remember making the trek from Quilchena Ranch, a place between Princeton and Merritt,to Peachland in our 70 Westy(y'know the one I should not have sold). The road was full of exposed rock that seemed insurmountable(as a kid) but my parents pressed on and we made it. Rock crawling before it was even a thing, and in a VW Westy no less. Good memories that I am indebted to my parents for.
