Hi there. First post here to the forums but I've been lurking for a while. After wanting a squareback for about 20 years I finally picked one up last year. Even better, it was right here on the island. I'm new to VWs in general, nearly bought a Karmann Ghia and a Notchback in Saskatchewan about 15 years ago but decided not to on either of them and always regretted it. That said, I've worked on cars in the past (Volvos, BMWs, Triumphs) but just starting to get to know this one.
Hope to get the car on the road this summer and, virus permitting, meet some other VW owners. Also, if anybody has tips on any type 3 parts on the island, hit me up, there are a couple out of production bits I'm looking for.
Cheers, Jon

Here are a few photos of the square. Haven't done much to it but have a list to get it well on the road - rebuild a bunch of the frontend, muffler, generator, seats... Can't wait to drive it this summer.

Nice! Good to see some more Type 3's out there. I have a '69 Fastback in the same shade of blue, but sadly it has been off the road for a while now. What specific parts are you needing???

I'm looking for seat adjuster cams for my driver's seat (pretty sure they're the same on both sides) or even a new seat frame. Also looking for a new handbrake. Appears to be a little nub broken off on mine so I don't think the brake is doing much.

You could ask Clay (on this site) if he has any Type 3 parts as he sells lots of other vintage VW parts. If he doesn't, then I might have something in my very rotten '69 Fastback parts car...

all you need is to weld a little nub back on the ebrake so that it comes through the hole in the plate. then you need to find out if your e brake cables are broken or even attached at the drum end.

Looks a little dry in that area I would pump some Rustcheck and wd mixture in that tunnel to lubricate and prevent rust for that matter I would spray the whole car down.

Sadly I have no welding experience, that's why I was looking for the part instead. The e-brake cables seemed to have some tension on them if I place that plate over the nub so they're either attached or seized somewhere.

Anyone know if the ebrake handle is the same as a beetle? If so, I've got a '73 parts car I could pull one from. I'm in Port Alberni, but will be in Nanaimo before the end of the month.

I don’t know much about much but this appears to be (at least at a glance) the same part on a bunch of old VWs. With typical luck there are differences here and there by about 4mm :/
