When I was in my early 20's I owned a used 71 super beetle and a 65 vw utility van. I developed the super beetle in to a chopped roof custom with a juiced up 1641cc dual carb engine. The project had a number of contributors and took 4 years to complete. Along with the chopped top and transplanted 54 oval window I also widened the fenders in steel which included rolling the rounded front body part out into a fairing that molds into the front fenders. Seats out of a toyota celica were recovered to match the new interior which I made as a two seater car. The mods were extensive. Lowering of the car was accomplished by using front springs from the toyota I got the seats out of. The rear torsion splines were adjusted to lower the rear end. In the winter I would take the engine out of the custom and put it in the 65 bus for commuting to work. I had to sell the car in the early 80's because of job loss but it went to a friend. That friend passed away from cancer another friend bought it and I got it back in 2018.
