Tried crawling under Ol' Betsey today to install the drive shafts thinking "Hey! it's in the shade". NOT, NYET, NINE etc.....It's orders of magnitude hotter under there than it is in the shade of a nice thick tree. And then just try grabbing a nice hot black tire to pull yourself out from the lower oven, OUCH! Stan

We're cheating. I've been lugging around an antique $85 20+ year old room air conditioner for 20+ years which I hooked up to our master bedroom window last Friday. It's doing a hero's job keeping our bedroom at a steady 22deg C which seems very cold compared to the rest of the house, but just right for sleeping. My shop which I just checked at 8 pm is sitting right at 104 deg F. We had friends in kimberley who moved to Abo Dabby (sp?) and told us years ago that in the summer there it is often way above 100 deg F. They never go outside, just from their air conditioned home to their air conditioned car to the air condition shopping malls and their air conditioned offices. That's it. I couldn't live like that. My porch was 43C by noon today but you got me beat , it was only 30C when I went to bed at midnight , so I kept a sweater handy just in case! lol

The next door neighbour's adult (40 something) daughter lives in his large 5th wheel parked 5 or 6 feet from our bedroom window and we haven't been hearing his/her air conditioner lately. an "over the fence" comment revealed it had broken a couple of weeks ago. I imagine it's been a very hot couple of weeks for her. Anyway, a nice young man from an RV repair place showed up this morning and he climbed up on the 5th wheel roof and took the cover off and immediately began dancing one of those new fangled dances, the booga loo or the train or something like that. Anyway it turns out there is a very large wasp's nest inside the cover. Amusing to watch, hope he didn't damage the roof with his "dance". After what must have been a whole can of raid expended on the enemy insects he proceeded to fix the unit. Now we have to live with the noise again. )-: Stan

The cloud cover and cooler temps are welcome today. It was 45°C on the FJ's dash pod when I was in the sun moving a car off a trailer the other day. We made the decision to move ourselves and some of our stuff to the "new" house a bit sooner because of the heat. Moving crap and cleaning up on those hottest days was not fun. The "new" house has a split heat pump we had installed when we did the renovations. Even though it is a strange new place, the cats were okay with an inside place to keep from getting overheated. Happy Canada Day everyone
