All sorts of things that add up to hours and hours of work. I just took a full 2 hours "working" under Betsy trying to get the shift rod coupler to "mate" with the tranny rod. It is a brand new coupler, first rate quality, nice man made rubber type of material quite expensive too. But it would only go half way on! @#$&^&$%^$%$ I could plainly see the set screw (bolt?) hole or to be correct, at least a quarter of it through the threaded hole in the couple but do you think it would go on? No @@%$@&&$%^ way..
I backed it out at least a zillion times thinking it might not have started on straight, no luck. I turned it back and forth a bazillion times thinking I could work it on. No $%^*#%^@%@^ way.
I then "gave up" and took the coupler off and took it into the house to see if I had ordered the wrong one, but nope, it was correct. Then I noticed how well made it was. All nice and shiny black. WAIT A MINUTE, that's paint @#$$%$% 5 minutes of sanding the paint off the inside of the coupler and it fit back on just as slick as pig snot.
Grrrr, no wonder it's taking me so long to get her back on the road. That and 117 things still on the to do list for the house. Stan

That's great to see your well-known Beetle in its new home Frank! Isn't having a fast Bug that is too low a first world problem? Thanks for inviting us over for the club get together. Hopefully next time I'll be able to partake in a beverage and stay a bit longer

polishing and stuff. all I can really do atm until I feel better. time though sure flies when you have the music on and you are working in the garage. time warp fast. better than any tv show or whatever by a longshot though
