Was digging through some boxes at my parents place and found the June 1959 copy of National Geographic with a large article about modern day Germany at the time. You just knew there had to be some VW pictures in there somewhere... The article itself and photographs were from November 1958, so those glossy beetles should be 1959 model years. Wonder how many survived today? The red ones in the foreground are euro spec (no overider holes in apron and semaphore holes in the window pillar). Also wonder if the women worker ever dropped something on her "steel toes"!?! The article text mentions the author had a tour of the Wolfsburg factory and watched the assembly of one particular engine. He even recorded the number, 2624518. Is it still purring away somewhere???
