If anyone actually has one of those tire covers just like that, I want it!

My stereo wasn't much to speak of because I couldn't afford it. I had a D cell pack for longer drives and C cell powered speakers. But at least I had some tunes…good old cassette tapes I added the tach and oil temp and pressure because I was told it would be a good idea. Driving thru the Okanagan in the summer always freaked me out a bit I look back and can still remember drilling those holes in the now rare radio block-off plate

DRILLING HOLES IN THE BLOCK OFF PLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!! what were you thinking? I know! I was CRAZY!! Well, at least I didn't drive it onto Long Beach in the early 70's to go camping. Oh wait, I couldn't drive back then, so it was up to Mum and Dad But I could drive Hot Wheels! Laurie calls this my still present usual scowl…

By chance I discovered some more early pics of our family enjoying the 70 Westy This is pretty soon after purchase. I think it is in the same driveway in Richmond one of the videos is from My parents met on Hollyburn ski hill, so naturally they thought we should enjoy skiing. I liked getting there in the Bus anyway, LOL! There was usually plenty of goofing around at the "campsite". I put that in quotes because this particular spot was on a rise that we dubbed "Boot Hill" owing to the fact that there was an old weathered snag that we hung one of my dad's old holed boots in. FWIR it was a few miles up the road from the Quichena Ranch which is(was?) located between Princeton and Merritt Bad pics, but they do capture the lazy campsite atmosphere. Probably waiting for bacon off the Coleman Stove griddle... I think I learned to shoot rifles and shotguns here. I seem to recall a sore shoulder one night, but I absolutely do remember it being a lot of fun. Things you can't do these days... Here we are in 1975 headed out for a holiday camping. We had just "adopted" our new cat that came out from behind the outhouse at the rest stop that no longer exists just this side of Hope, BC. We are in the town of Hope buying cat food. My sister's Hawaii shirt was purchased by mum and dad when they were sent there because my dad achieved "Par Club Excellence" as a tech rep with Xerox. I don't think I will ever go....I would rather camp in our province. Weird, eh?

Cool pics! My parents have many pictures like that from our family camping back in the '70's and '80's, but the majority of them involved BOATS and not VW's, sadly...

Man I really appreciate these pictures!!! Thanks Frank. I was starting to wonder if anyone cared, or was interested at all. Or worse, just thought I was posting to show off(not at all the intent). Cheers, Don

Hey Frank, lets see some of YOUR vintage pics. Surely you must have some VW ones from back in the day...
