The first vehicle I was allowed to drive after getting my learner's licence was our family's Blue 70 Westy. Bought almost new in 1970 I had done many thousands of miles in this Bus, but never behind the steering wheel. Here she is in 1976, just after moving from North Vancouver to our new family home north of Oliver BC. She already sports replacement curtains since our dog had chewed up the originals(along with much of the seat belts, lol). I have even made a few montages of camping during our family's early ownership Here I am with my sister Andrea in 1988 The caption on the back says it all(my mum's handwriting)

Not me thank god! That was the next door neighbour I was the first out of the Westy and just stood there like a dolt. Not much better….

Bus seems to be missing things like back bumper and apron??? Dreaded battery tray rust too. You just know you should have kept that one...

Yes, the bumper was missing, but not gone(I put it back on later). The apron was painted black because it was so rusty and awful that I wanted paint, any paint, on it, and that is what I had. I may have been kinda dumb(er) back then, but I did understand the concept of air cooled vehicles needing a sealed engine compartment(except when I found the engine temps to be cooler in the very hot OK days with the engine lid slightly ajar). I am surprised you didn't mention the high-boy ride height in the rear Russ. I still didn't know about the spline differences and hated having a saggy rear end I know I should have kept it, don't rub it in!! Even back then I dressed like a slob in patched field work pants….oh boy

And here is evidence that I did indeed drive my Bus in winter. Fleece pants, pile jacket, gloves. Brrrrrrrrr! Probably trying to find reverse When I went to synthetic it got much easier in the cold. Note my SONY stereo system. Battery powered speakers and a walkman. I am surprised I could hear it over the din of the engine!

Aren't those the wipers you flip over and they scrape your windshield for you?

Those white things on the wipers were supposed to keep your wipers on the windshield. They actually worked….sometimes

I hated those wiper things too. But for some reason those were the only things that helped at the time. The wipers on the super were so light they pretty much missed sixty percent of visibility. Hated them.... I remember driving to mt. Washington in the pouring rain and absolutely needing them! I like the cool family videos don!
