I was making plans to repaint my bus 70 back to Neptune Blue. That was until "Old Blue" came back to the club (congrats by the way). :-) I know Brent likes to be different and I don't want to be a copy cat so...what are your thoughts on the color of this bus? There is another Neptune Blue Bus around y'know…..look to your left <<< If you want to be different to Brent, go white on top. I would just paint the whole thing blue though, but maybe that's just me! I believe the correct colour schemes for 68-70 Buses(Kombis) was all one colour. If you wanted a Deluxe model, the roof would have been Cloud White(i.e. body colour was up to the gutters). The scheme changed in 1971 when for Deluxe Buses the paint change was at the belt line, like the the "pepperminty" colour now. And stock, OEM is great. I love a stock bus as much as the next VW guy. But, it's YOUR bus!! Try this website out. busselecta.com/bus/You can paint your bus the colour you want, select the ride height, wheels, trim, etc and get an idea of what you want to do. Although it will open in the Split bus page, click on model and it will let you change it to a Bay.

Thanks Don. That's all good information. I would like to do the white above the belt line. I really like that look, but I know that I will never regret going with the proper stock paint job. Decisions decisions!
Thanks CrazyBrit! busselecta.com/bus/ is awesome! Never seen that before.
Thanks for the input folks! B

For the record, since I am not in the position of giving orders to anyone, nor do I want to be, I was not telling you how to paint your Bus. Paint it purple and black with a naked lady silver belt line in the shape of a V on the front, for all I care(just don't expect me to keep my mouth shut if you do ) . I just thought it might be good stuff to share for those not aware of what VW did back in the day. I find it interesting that the deluxe Bay Buses only had lower colour paint to the gutter for 3 years then reverted back to how the Splitties were painted seemingly all along. The best thing about the VW "scene" is everything goes and there is pretty good acceptance for individuality from stock to wild custom.

"Paint it purple and black with a naked lady silver belt line in the shape of a V on the front" That would be "KEWL"

Funny you should mention that crazy/purple/suicide/naked-lady split/bay bus. I think about that thing all the time. It certainly got a "reaction". At any rate, I'm just happy to get everyone's thoughts on the matter. Not them most important matter I have on my mind, but I'm excited to get rid of the pastel peppermint.
Thanks again. B

Hope you made it out OK. I once drove my bus for a couple days with a broken cable. Doable, but not fun...

Byron 250-888-3920 Byron, I didn't see this until this morning. I only have late bay clutch cables in my parts stash. Did you get it fixed? I've heard of people adapting things like clothesline cable as a temporary solution. Let me know if your need a delivery to Prospect Lake.

Hey dudes!
Thanks for those who reached out. Very much appreciated. Even WCP offered to take time away from his project to deliver me some supplies. Heck of a guy! I was hesitant to try to drive the bus with no clutch. I had my little girl and the Malahat between me and my house. Might have tried it if I was by myself and in my crappy bus. I managed to rig my clutch with some aircraft cable and some cheap clamps from home depot. I got home with no problems other than a little low level stress. My quick run to prospect lake turned into a fun camping trip so all is well in the end.
Thanks again all! B

Glad it worked out, I'm surprised you headed out in the rain, though Victoria was much better that the Malahat yesterday.

In a pinch a little double hex cable clamp like this might work. Will have to add some plain cable and clamps to my spares box for possible DIY rescues.

That is pretty much the same fix I deployed. Except my clamp was crude and cheap.

New floor and seat stand rubber! I know many people like to put in the wooden floors, but I have always liked these rubber floors. Nice and quiet and easy to clean. I also like the way you have to come up with a story about the history of rubber and it's importance in modern global industrialization to justify the insane cost of this stuff. I have a guy coming this weekend to give me a quote on doing the interior upholstery. I really need to get rid of those muppet fur front seats! Getting close! PEACE! B

Are you going to try and save the existing covers? They'd be great for someone with worn seats.
