Fun! I love the feel of a bus when the ass end kicks out

Awesome! It really shows how well the buses handle in the snow. We used to take ours to Mt. Washington in the '80s and it would drive over a freshly snowed road no problem. Here's another clip from Youtube as well:
Cool, thanks for posting that Tom! I wonder what kind of suspension changes have been done? One might suppose that for racing like this mild lowering and a beefed up or added stabilizer bars might be in order. I figure the driver knows his vehicle enough to allow for the bars as he seems to be pushing the limits somewhat, plus I doubt he is concerned about tire wear!
I used to drive my Westy and Double Cab in the snow. They went thru it great. The most fun I had was when I missed the shortcut turn-off at Keremeos, in heavy snow and decided to right the mistake by pulling into a uncleared fruit stand parking lot. I got more than I bargained for with about 2 feet of snow, plus the ridge the snowplow left at the highway's edge. Luckily it was "light" snow and I was able to carry speed thru the turn and burst back out onto the highway as there was no traffic. Pedal to the metal…just as I like it
Visiting my parents in Oliver back in the late 80's to mid 90's. Remember the snow dumps in '96? I drove home in the middle of them.
My Vanagon DoKa however was another story in the snow. It was awful! Admittedly, the snow around here is darn slippery, but even my good, but non-studded, tires couldn't keep my ass end almost passing me on a few occasions on the dirt roads near home in Yellow Point. Not fun as it just felt out of control, and not in the rally sense.

Great stories Don, I wish I had some pics of our winter van adventures. Who knows maybe some will turn up. We would have 5 people in the '73 Westfalia, given how cold it was I think the stock Eberspacher heater must have been working. This is one from the Samba that looks like the one I have. It was apparently working when I got the bus back, but since it hadn't been run in years I disconnected it and am waiting to have it cleaned up, maybe at Eliice by Neil hopefully.
