I just split the case on a 1600 to rebuild it On the business half, the opening where the oil screen goes is badly corroded and disintegrating. I assume this means that rebuilding this one is not an option. I have an AH1600 in the car. Should I switch gears and pull it and rebuild it? It came used when I bought the car and I know that it used to run duals and I think has a big cam in it. I worry about using it because it has zero end play at TDC and good play at 180 degrees out??? #bummedout inlantzville

O.K. I am piling up all of my scrap metal and taking it to recycle. I'll hang on to the crank and heads, doghouse and alternator. all else is junkola. Will be pulling out my existing engine and probably grabbing a good used one to run for now.

Good call. Out with the old! Slam in the "new" one, then rebuild the old one. Never hurts to have an extra engine around, and you will learn a ton in the interim. Sorry I'm not a ton of help. The are far better sources of info on this forum so I'll leave it to them to comment. Good luck! B

All good. I fugure spending a hundred bucks was money well spent to give me a "dummy" engine to take apart and learn what makes these engines tick. Had I known that it was NFG to begin with, I might not have been so gentle when tapping off the cylinders. It sad exposed to the elements for over a decade with no carb and no engine cover! #4 cylinder was half full of rusty sediment when I removed the head. lol
