What kind of VW related goodies did Santa bring you? I got a few X-mas bucks from Mom and naturally blew it a few days later... Don (PICTUP) and myself made the trek to Vancouver to a shop known as Wilkinson's Automobilia. If you have never heard of this place, it is amazing if you like cars. The shop is an old house that is crammed to the ceiling with thousands of die-cast cars in all scales as well as lots of books, magazines, sales brochures, manuals, etc. They carry mostly new stock but have a large selection of vintage items as well (they buy complete collections). They cater to every kind of vehicle there is but do not carry plastic model kits (have some old ones though). For the VW fan, there is LOTS to choose from, with diecasts in various scales from tiny to massive. We saw all VWs in all types of buses, beetles, ghias, type 3s, type 4s!, military, etc. They have plenty of water cooled as well including lots of Mk 1 golfs, some Mk2, Mk4, Mk5's as well. Even had a vanagon panel diecast as well. Also was tempted by a very nice Scirocco in 1/43 scale too. They just got a shipment of 1/18 scale "Auto Art" 1955 Oval windows in black that were stunning in quality (and price too!). Anyway I picked up a nice Ghia book and lucked out in finding an original brochure for the "Dorper" camper conversion. I was lucky to find this as information about my red 1972 Camper has been very hard to come bye.
I also thought about it for a while as I don't have any Ghia Dinky toys, so I finally forked out for this one. If is actually a low light Ghia, but I like it anyway. Like the white-wall tires too!
I also bought this brochure featuring the 1970 VW range. The blue beetle in the front was the Christmas present from my Mom. She had the cash she gave me stuck in through the windows!
Incidently they had lots of sales brochures for type 3's and type 4's. The beetle section was well picked over and nothing for splitty buses. There was a very nice low-light ghia brochure but I didn't want to fork out the $65 they were asking! We will definately return to Wilkinson's in the future!
