I didn't dare drive something that nice when I taught my delinquents (not a pejorative term, merely factual) at my jr. high school. Any teacher who showed up with a nice ride, soon found it defaced, or damaged in some way. My poor old, but reliable bug was looked at in distain. None of the vandals ever touched it. I think they thought it would be beneath their dignity to vandalize something seemingly in such a moribund state. Stan

Hey Mitch,
I was studying the underside pic of your Bug and noticed something I hadn't seen before. Is that an anti-hop brace I am looking at?
Also, because you are running J tubes, did you have to custom fabricate the tin piece for the sled tin to bolt to? Seems to me whenever I see J tubes, people don't use the tin, but I have seen so few, I can't be sure.

thanks for the kind words....probably looking at the camber compensator Don. it mounts to the center of the transaxle and then a strap goes over the axle tubes to limit body sway(car originally had the z bar set up witch i foolishly removed and discarded as a teen) this ones an orig empi chromed one i found at a wrecking yard. yes the sled tin fillers a custom thing installed to keep the air flow going the direction vw intended. these ones i made out of (believe it or not) from a louvered fire wall kit!

Well done! Byron

Thanks Mitch. So how does a z bar set up compare to the camber compensator in looks and function? Yes, we do silly things as teens don't we? I started learning about VW Buses and didn't realize how much there is to know You were johnny-on-the-spot to get that compensator. My biggest find was a working early Bay clock that I found in a wrecking yard in Midway for $15 or something like that. I know it doesn't compare to a cool functional piece of hardware to help go faster safely, but for some reason I will always remember the find. Sold it along with my Westfalia before I knew better….
