On the wiper arm and shaft I'm guessing that the splines on the shaft match splines on the inside of the wiper arm and the inside of the wiper arm shouldn't be smooth......yes? Thanks

The arms are alloy at the ends which attach to the spindles. Even if the "splines" are worn, usually they will grab again when tightened. Someone turn on their wipers with the blades frozen to the windshield???

A lady I know has had the problem for a year or so and I tightened it a couple of times for her but even though the components are tapered I think over time the post may be bottoming out on the wiper arm and the wiper arm may have been reamed out slightly larger so it doesn't wedge together any more!

Although I have not seen that in person, I can see that might be the problem. Time for a new wiper arm...

Thanks but I'm going to try the spray foam and fiberglass and see how that works first..... P.S. I did sort of weld a transmission in once!!!
