Does any one know where you can get replacement adjuster springs for stock drum brakes. I am looking for the little spring steel ones that stop the star adjusters from rotating. Mine are toast!
Please and thank you.

Dad and I replaced the nosecone bushings on the transmission this summer. With an hour a week to work on my cars at the moment, I haven't made much progress. I did get the transmission back in, but I cannot get all of the gears, so I suspect that the shifters were not set correctly when the nosecone went back on this summer. It looks like the transmission will be coming out again to rectify this. To think that all I was doing was fixing an oil leak...

is all of your shift linkage in order from front to back. shift coupler, etc. you may have the shift fork jammed between two gears. you can move the gear box back enough, and motor to remove the nose cone and move the elector lever. and move the forks into a neutral position. yah some oil will come out.

Yes, it was working fine before I pulled it out. I disconnected the linkage last night and it moves freely. The engine is still out, so I drained the oil last night and will pull the transmission next time I am out there. Draining the oil was a good thing though, because although it was fresh, it washed out lots of gunk.

I moved the last two posts for the sake of continuity, instead of info being potentially lost in the "Part Wanted" thread. In the 65 I had trouble getting any gears until I refitted and greased the heck outta the bushing at the front, just under the shifter. But after that I got nuthin'

The linkage seems fine. I think that there's something going on inside the nosecone. I am seriously considering IRS, but the problem is that I don't want to go low. Anyone have an IRS Thing (181) transmission lying around that they no longer need?

Please and thank you. I made replacement springs for my 69 van. I used steel strapping from packing up pallets. This steel is easy to cut and bend to shape and I think holds its shape. The new pieces are crimped into place on the cast piece that holds to star adjusters. Doug

Thanks Doug. I actually ended up buying them from CIP. Unfortunately progress has ground to a halt because I've injured my back😐

Well, the back is stronger than it's been in months, but still not full strength and probably never will be again. The sun was out today though and I want to drive an unreliable old car with next to zero crash protection that leaks oil, smells of gas and annoys my wife...
So, I carefully laid myself on the garage floor and an hour later the transmission was out again. For some reason it isn't shifting after Dad and I replaced the nosecone bushings last year.
I have to admit that I'm seriously considering a Creative Engineering IRS kit to make it a safer, nicer drive, but I'm really struggling with the idea of cutting my bus.
