Anyone have a starter bushing removal tool? Would like to rent / borrow / steal / trade or even just use out of the kindness of your heart. Or is there a little truck to do the job without removing the engine? If nobody has one, you should buy it and lend it to me. I’m in nanaimo but am up n down the island all the time. Best of the season to everyon.

This is what we use at work. It is just any bolt that it slightly smaller then the outside diameter of the starter bushing. Can't remember what size (10mm,12mm???). Anyway you just grind a groove in the edge of a bolt that allows it to "bite" into the bushing. We use an air ratchet and wind the bolt into the bushing. If you do it right, the bolt will thread itself into the bushing and then bottom out in the hole. Keep going and the bushing will thread itself out of the hole like magic. This works very well, quickly, and we have done hundreds like this, and it does not damage the hole in the transmission... And no, I don't think I have one of these at home...

Thx for the offer Terry. Was able to get it out with a tap n die set (YouTube). Unfortunately the replacement bushing I got from Bavarian is the wrong size. Will stop in during the week to hopefully get or order the correct size. Best of the season to everyone out there.

Exactly. I know what I want, what I have, and what I don’t need. That leaves one. The one I don’t have.

Well my afternoon project that started befor Christmas finally got finished. New bushing installed and the yellow bug starts and purrrs like a German kitty. This weather really drains the motivation out of a guy, or is it all the f-ing hours I work. Either way, one down. NEXT!!!!

I wasted VW time by actually watching some TV tonight, which is a rarity for me. Velocity channel is still on free preview so I watched a couple of those shops that customize cars for their (obviously) wealthy clients. Kind of depressing... Was fun to watch one shop do nice work on the $500,000 Rolls, and then half ass a Chevy Blazer back together...
