Might as well start the conversation. CJ2018 is gonna be celebrating it’s 10 th year The last 3 years it’s been held on Aug long weekend. It also has been held in the thriving metropolis of Golden BC. I found out about these guys back in 2012 on YouTube, and they were basically a small group of Albertan Bus owners who wanted to gather together and camp. They had a dream of creating a large gathering of buses for Canada’s west. I attended my first one 2014 in Drumheller. 20-30 buses were there, camping on the edges of Ab’s version of the Gran Canyon. It was awesome, wild horses, tornados, and spectacular views. I traveled up with HighTop Rob and met a fellow airspeed member, Richard, on the way up. We were the only BC plates there, lol. I was hooked, just like most people who attend. Like minded people creating friendships and memories. Thanks to social media, it has grown and the past few years we are seeing 70+ buses in attendance. We’ve been getting buses from Sask, QB, Wash, Org, Ca and even one from over seas. It’s grown with live entertainment in the evenings, local breweries in attendance, games, vendors and food trucks. It’s a great family event, and since it’s their 10th anniversary, we’re expecting over 100 buses. It’s gonna be epic. So, I post this early, so that you can plan your holidays around this awesome event. Don’t miss it. Tickets go on sale online (hopefully) Feb 14 I’ll post more info soon #camperjamcanada

I would like to go, but as usual family has zero interest in any form of camping...

I know my Bus wouldn't make it. But if I did have a Bus, yeah, for me it can't be such a long commitment time/money. Funny, you'd think by my age, this would be entirely not the case. In my original 70 Wusty, not only did I find the time/money to go to Cabo San Lucas on the Baja, but I also made a trip to Calgary at the end of October to see a Midnight Oil concert in the Saddledome. How things change in such weird ways....

I don't see what the big deal is going up to Golden. I'd do it if I were finished the house. Chris and I packed up and took two, 2 month trips to Newfoundland and back in our 74 bus in 2 years. Maybe I was naive or something but even a buggered electric fuel pump on a long weekend didn't faze us a bit. What's the worst thing that could happen? Total breakdown? Then activate plan B. Park the bus or have it towed somewhere to long term park it. Take the greyhound home and start planning on renting an auto trailer or dolly to go and pick it up. It's an adventure, after all. Stan

Here’s a great idea! Why doesn’t Don jump in with Russ, cut the costs, share the driving (cause ya know Don wants to drive a bus again) and make it up to camp for a couple nights. Don’t forget the circus tent, I heard Dons an expert at pitching them With your awesome bus (s) you should be able to get there in a day. According to google, it’s a 8 hour drive from Horseshoe bay.

Nope, it's NOT a one day drive! Done it many times (lived in Kimberley just a couple of hours S. of there) Wouldn't attempt it in less than a day and a half especially in a bus. I'd stay overnight with my son in Kelowna. I'd love to go but I'm not going to commit this early. Stan

So, according to google, a lil over 3 hours from horseshoe bay to Kamloops. Again, according to google it’s just over 4 hours from Kamloops to Golden. Add the up and it’s just shy of 8 hours. Now, I know our buses don’t speed, but google doesn’t either. So, technically if I took the 6:15 am out of Nanaimo, I’d be on the freeway by 8 am. That would basically put me in Kamloops for lunch. By the way, lunch would be around 12-1. See I included hills and speed difference. Lunch should technically allow for cooling time and stretch break. If I left between 1-2 I could technically be in Golden for dinner. Mind you, it would be a later dinner, between 5-7. Still light out, and still time to set up camp. Now, that being said, I don’t travel like that, but I have in incedences where I was pushed for time. Couple years back I did just east of jasper, to lake Louise, and to Revelstoke, about an 8 hour ride, according to google, and with stops, pictures and meals, we did it in 10-12 hours. So, to say it can be done, I guess it depends on circumstance and the person .....

Yup, one of the beautiful things about a VW bus is that it's slow. It allows you to relax and enjoy the ride. I've done the trip back east almost a dozen times, once in a beetle, twice in a bus and the rest in "faster" cars. It's unanimous in my mind that slower is waaaaay better. We once did a very fast run to Ottawa to keep up with a moving van. We were ferrying our daughter's car. Chris was in our Corolla and I was driving their Matrix. Long days, fast speeds, horrible trip. Did it in 3+ days. One of our trips in a bus took the same route (trans Canada North of the lakes) but took 25 days to get to Ottawa. Wonderful trip. Stan

My money is going to Seattle this year, if I'm not working. I'm not sure if it will be an old or modern vehicle yet though!
