Although I like a lot of JDM cars, these are not one of them...

I like them, but not the whole fake VW nose thing.

Yes, mixed feelings. There is at least one (probably more) custom body shop in Japan that fabricates the faux noses etc. I have to admire their ingenuity

Is it wrong to like these? Yes I just don't like that they are playing off an established genre/time of vehicle, without being as useful/original. It just don't feel right I tell ya! But what do I know, I like weird other cars....

There is an air-cooled scene in Japan, but it is limited due to a lack of vehicles and resulting high prices. However, the little Japanese Kei vans and trucks are cheap and everywhere. I can see how some clever entrepreneur saw an opportunity

If you like cars in general, Japan is a fantastic place to visit. Lots of real cool home market cars and contrary to popular belief, there are older cars all over the place. And pretty much everything is in absolutely mint condition as well... And they are not afraid to drive very rare/expensive/exotic cars as regular daily drivers. Was there around five years ago and would definitely return some day...

They look OK, but they don't have the serious panache of this one. This is the view most people will most likely get. See below. Stan

Where's the panache in that monstrosity? That's just hard on the eyes. It looks like it was pimped up to go into a parade. Stan

I didn't see any trucks like that, but did see a lot of trucks whose owners definitely took care of them. Many featured highly polished aluminum boxes, and most you could see your reflection in the shiny paint... On the frames!!!

This is why there is such a successful export market for used Japanese cars. Japanese are obligated to keep their vehicles in great condition under a government inspection system called Shaken, which can be expensive, but I agree pride is much more of a thing over there

I actually quite like that silver one that he was riding in. It looks like some sort of road-going Bullet Train with an old style cow catcher. Reminds me of watching the Speed Racer cartoon
