Cool thread, but not being from the UK, I was wondering if you could fill me in as to why the license plate changes after he gets it back to original paint(what a job requiring soooo much resolve BTW!!)? I thought the plates stayed with the car? Gotta love the old Pelican Red with a black roof. There was a car like that(probably a different red) in Seattle a while back...drool worthy

I hadn't noticed that. Both plates were age appropriate for the car - no single letter suffix on car prior to 1963.
Although the plates do stay with the car, you can purchase a specific "private" plate for your vehicle. It's a one time charge rated upon the desirability of the plate, unlike the ongoing rental fee that we have for vanity plates here. Perhaps that could be it?

Lotsa work to uncover that paint. I still like shiny better. Given all the "action" my Ghia has seen, I doubt there would be much Ruby Red remaining under my current paint...

I'm not a fan of rat look, but I do like a nice original car too.
