Just picked this up at a thrift shop. Stickers on the roof, Batman and "Isky Cams" "Hawk Model Co. 1972 Made In USA"

I've looked for anything VW oriented at the Valu Village for a couple of years with no luck. Stan

And look at those exhaust pipes, turning it over reveals a hump impression of a V8 just ahead of the rear wheels. Further research has found that this particular toy came with a small engine of some sort. Mine looks like it never had one but the space is there inside. Boogie vans were all the rage in the 70s!

That's a very good find Tom! I have also seen these as Testors-Hawk models and sold as tether cars with an 049cc engine. I have a more worn example of the Single Cab version in green that even has an opening tailgate. The top of the tailgate has a couple of small posts poking up(perhaps it is missing a spoiler?). My slot mags are white which kind of kills the magnesium vibe. Now I'm gonna have to look for the panel Bus, lol!

Yes, I think it's the same mould used for the tether cars, and it has a Testors sticker on the hatch. An 049cc engine, you mean like in an RC plane? I was going to bring it to the show

Yes, like the plane engine. Not sure if they used a different base or not. One would think they did and it would have been more reinforced. I think they were also produced under the COX name, but I am not sure if the Bus/Pickup version was...maybe just the Baja Bug and Manx Dune Buggy?
