Today was the day, and we were up bright but not too early, and made our annual pilgrimage up to Qualicum... The usual waiting in line allowed time for deep VW discussions between Brian and Don... Don chose his single cab as transport today, while I decided on the red bus. It must have been unhappy to come out today, because the fuel gauge decided that operation was optional. I think I had enough fuel on board... This 1964 Canadian Pontiac Parisienne was in line ahead of us and I quite liked it. Pontiac was a huge seller in Canada during the '60's, and I remember the streets being full of them in the late '70's. Parking in our final spots took way longer than it should have this time, but we finally arrived. This was the last "easy" picture before the crowds arrived... After gobbling our breakfast (well me, anyway), it was time to fight the crowds and try to get some pictures. First up was this '65 Oldsmobile Vista-Cruiser wagon. I do like wagons, and the glass roof panels in this model are cool. Interior was nice in this big wagon that featured the extra folding seats in the "way-back". None of my friends had wagons when I was young, so missed out on that stage in my life... This early Chevy II caught my eye... So did this 1955 Ford Victoria. These were quite nice machines of their era. This old Morris featured a supercharged V6 under the bonnet... Mitch might "like" this. Chevy drag car featured a triple turboed Duramax diesel. Imagine what that would sound like wound up??? Don liked this German built Opel GT. Interesting headlight system... 1961 Impala looked fine too. 1961 GM cars were all very distinctive from a time when GM ruled the North American market... Continued...

Hot Rods don't interest me much, but this one was special. Very very nicely put together was this '32 Ford roadster. The detailing was of a very high level on this build. Brian gave it his stamp of approval! One of the oldest cars there was this 1913 Ford Model T. At one time these were the most popular cars on earth... Rally enthusiasts would probably like the RHD Subaru racer. Note the Nissan Figaro in the background. 1966 Thunderbirds are big old boats, but they sure have a nice interior... Another big Boaty McBoatface, is another Canadian Pontiac Parisienne. A sea of green... It was nice to see this '68 AMC AMX at the show. One of two, in fact. I have seen this 2017 Acura NSX before, but still had to wipe up a bit of drool. The colour is amazing in person, and pictures just don't convey it. And a very clean old Volvo Amazon next to it. The "Amazon" name was used in most of the world, but not in Canada or the US for some reason... Sound the horn, another barge coming through! This Oldsmobile was BIG!!! My Mexican student, Jose, liked this Challenger. Chargers float his boat too. The "Fast and Furious" series explains a lot of this... And here it is. My favourite of the show. A 1970 Datsun 240Z. With original slot mags too! Gimme, gimme! And yes I LOVE that vibrant yellow, too! I have been fortunate enough to drive several of these in the past, and loved every one of them... Another nice 1961 GM product was this Buick LeSabre. Lots of cool details on this car. That instrument cluster is actually a mirror, reflecting the image from the cluster below, and is adjustable to. Interesting gimmick. Fancy modified interior of a 1957 Chevrolet Nomad. Another one will be shown later... Both Don and Brian liked this rare 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint. This model featured a 260 V8, and "modern" squared off hardtop roof-line... '66 Ford Fairlane was a plain colour, but had big power under the hood... Now don't you all start laughing. Chevettes were pretty reliable cheapo cars and they are now certainly old enough to be in car shows. I knew many who owned them back in the day... I am not usually into stuff this old, but this 1935 Ford Coupe was kinda neat. The engines in these Morris Minors, are amazingly tiny. You could almost reach in there and remove it with your bare hands. Now this was interesting. I like these Volvo P1800 models, and have mentioned before they were competitors with the Karmann Ghia. This one has been family owned and very well maintained for decades. Looks great and has only 500,000 plus KM on the clock... The dashboards are awesome in this model... It was nice to see a British Ford Anglia at the show. This model is commonly referred to as the "Harry Potter" car nowadays. Check out those fat carbs on that engine. Bet it sounds good too. Another Fairlane, this time a '67 with a few mods. And finally another VW. Although more were to come...

Pressed the wrong button due to falling asleep. Will be continued tomorrow... One more... This is Lance's '77 Westfalia, with random people walking in front of the camera. Normally that bugs me, but I will let it go this time...

After gobbling our breakfast (well me, anyway) And here is proof Russ at work after breakfast This Jeep Gladiator caught my fancy. Some time ago I saw this truck in midst of it's restoration. Glad to see it out there. I really thought the colour suited it, don't know if that was stock though. Full-on race Focus had speed written all over it. Note that strut mounted wing! Not high on comfort appointments Always liked Studebaker Commanders. Have a tin toy representation of one by DUX from Germany as a matter of fact Look closely and you will see the name on the chrome in the grille I know Russ hated this truck, but I liked the fade in the paint At first I thought this was an airport tug, but I am not too sure. Here is Brian checking it out. We both loved the shapes on the truck. Sign writing was cool. Monster flat head V8 FWIK(Russ will probably correct me... ) Old or new??? Stumpy Mmmmmm, full fenders! Don't usually go for these bagged vehicles, but this root beer coloured truck with black smoothy wheels and stocker caps did it for me. Very clean fab work. I needed more light. Both Brian and I found this custom emblem very cool. You can have one made here: www.billetbadges.com/

I was only familiar with the Studebaker Commander that looked a little like the late 40's Fords , I've never seen one like that hmmm! I looked it up and the Commander was built from 1927-1964 , who knew! Not me , maybe Terry!

Ok, lets not hit the wrong button and delete stuff this time... Kieran was at the show and his Jetta glowed with the latest wrap installed. These '60's Plymouths are a decent car. Too bad the Plymouth name is looonnng gone. A much older, and highly modified Acura NSX. I clearly remember when these were new and how amazing they looked at the time. There is that Pontiac again that was shown earlier. Another great car line that faded to oblivion... This Lotus was dwarfed by most of the other cars at the show... Liked the look of this 1958 Chevrolet Apache. Mark's Dad, wearing the shirt I hope to be able to show off with pride some day... Yet another 1961 GM product, this time a Chevrolet Bel-Air that really needed to be much lower to the ground! One for Mark, a 1955? Austin-Healey. Looked good in black. As Don noted, the orange interior with red top looked a bit odd, however. Don spotted this Nissan 240 SX pulled over by the cops on the way back. Lets see, beautiful sunny weather, straight stretch of fast highway, who wouldn't want to open it up a bit??? Continued...

As Don noted, the orange interior with red top looked a bit odd, however. Apparently according tio the original owner's son, who had it restored, those Healey's could be ordered like that. He was quick to poiunt out when I said "orange" that it was instead "Healey Persimmon" and that the red top was often paired with the Persimmon seats. I still find it odd though. That fold down windshield was pretty cool. I have seen them before but never had a chance to see the "two person operated" mechanism up close. The spring is taken off then it is levered up and back with a pin seating into the hole that is just barely visible at the base of the post.

I still like those old Cougars, and this red '68 was one of two near identical cars in the show. This one was for sale too, but they ain't going to be getting the $22,000 they are asking for it.... Sadly Cougars are worth far less then an equivalent Mustang... Another big old boaty Canadian Pontiac, this time an original owner car in the original purple shade. And with big block 396 power. Cool! Here is a car that has virtually disappeared from our streets. A 1968 Toyota Corolla. Toyota went on to build a few more of them over the years... Basic, but got you to your destination reliably. Like all good Toyotas should. Think it had an 1100 cc engine. This satin splittie was here last year too, and it was still getting the looks. Owned and restored by Shawn Cole. Who also restored the Beetle below... And there it was. A restored 1959 Deluxe Beetle in Garnet Red. And this car was extra interesting, because Derrick Ward, the owner, bought it brand new 60 years ago! And he still owns it! A 1965 1200 is the current engine, but he still has the original 36 hp, safely at home. And that is an original sticker, still firmly in place too. Awesome! And parked opposite was this 1977 Westfalia owned by Patrick. You just can't beat a late Westfalia interior. In my totally unbiased opinion... Continued...

This '56 Ford has been cruising a lot around Nanaimo lately, and is looking good. A 1981 Silverado. These "square body" pickups are gaining popularity fast. Old Beaumonts still do it for me. I like the fact that they are significantly different than the US Chevelles that they are similar too... Continued...

And that is an original sticker, still firmly in place too. Awesome! I thought he said it wasn't original, but he had an original(in poor shape maybe?) and had some reproductions made...which promptly all sold to current members of the club still in existence

Nice Oldsmobile 442. Too bad GM let this great name die away too. Still love this Galaxie, even though I am sure I took its picture before... This classic 1957 Chevy Nomad has been here before too, and is still one of my favourites. Remember that Econoline campervan that was for sale at the swap meet? This is the interior picture I forgot to take last time. Despite being a somewhat larger vehicle than a VW bus, it sure seemed cramped in there... Another great Canadian only car, was this Ford Monarch Richelieu. Very rare. But this was even rarer. Have you ever even heard of a ASC Mclaren? I hadn't ever heard of this car, and I kinda like cars in general... Peter's split Beetle was looking just fine... And Harry's Standard oval was parked right beside it and looking great too! One of my bosses has a '49 Chevrolet, just like this. Except his has no engine. And rust. Lots of rust... These old Challengers look pretty cool. So do the new ones, and there were a few at the show. No boring black interiors here. New cars suck. Continued...
