That looked like a great event. Sciroccos are by far my favourite water pumpers - I loved mine. I hope some of these great vehicles are still on display when I get back from work.

I met the original owner of that Scirocco who was there with his wife. He stated he owned it for 25 years, then traded it back to Harbourview who agreed to keep it for their collection. His comment was he didn't want "some young punk kids getting their hands on it!"

Did the Harbour View people take you guys up on the roof? If not you really should ask them for a tour. Stan

When this old world starts getting me down And people are just too much for me to face I climb way up to the top of the stairs And all my cares just drift right into space On the roof, it's peaceful as can be And there the world below can't bother me Let me tell you now When I come home feelin' tired and beat I go up where the air is fresh and sweet (up on the roof) I get away from the hustling crowd And all that rat-race noise down in the street (up on the roof) On the roof, the only place I know Where you just have to wish to make it so Let's go up on the roof (up on the roof) At night the stars put on a show for free And, darling, you can share it all with me I keep a-tellin' you Right smack dab in the middle of town I've found a paradise that's trouble proof (up on the roof) And if this world starts getting you down There's room enough for two Up on the roof (up on the roof) Up on the roo-oo-oof (up on the roof) Oh, come on, baby (up on the roof) Oh, come on, honey (up on the roof) Everything is all right (up on the roof)

Sorry, I shouldn't keep it a secret, I hear there's a sitting area up on the roof now so I guess it's not much of a secret any more. They have a full blown PV solar collector farm up there that powers the whole shebang. They are also going to equip the roof of the auxiliary building (the old one) with a PV collector array as well. One of the owners (don't remember his name) took us up last year and gave us the tour. It's well worth asking if you can go up and see it. Stan

Sooo, I went back to Harbourview on the weekend to get some pictures when there were not as many people around... And the bus still looked great. Just look down the side. Smooth! Note that it has been converted to 12 volts, and also features Hella H4 headlights. I am sure they will drive it at night... MMM, chrome! Interior material had a very slight metallic sheen to it. Lotsa dough was spent on this resto... Continued...

I had not really checked out the Thing that much previously. Turns out it is quite nice too. Not quite stock by any means, but nicely detailed and solid California VW. The front trunk was open, and it was nicely detailed. Original gasoline heater was still in place too. This vibrant Ghia, was a 1971 version. Again, this was quite a nice VW. Mark would like the year, but don't know if he approves of the colour! Note the radio antenna, but no actual radio in the car. This was not the only car in their collection like this... Continued...

And how about this Doka? You don't get much more original then this... The interior really did still have some of that new car smell. Why? Yes it really does have an honest 934 km on it! Must be one of the lowest mileage Transporters in existence. Cool! I did have a closer look at the Scirocco as well. Definitely not original, but very nice. Leather interior had some light wear, but still had a great smell. Of all these cars, this one is still my favourite. This 1969 Beetle, is a Canadian Custom model, although it was modified slightly during its restoration. Note the Volkswagen Canada tires on it. These were the very last set available in Canada when installed, and have been on the car for almost 30 years! That is the mighty 1200 cc engine, as found in all Canadian Customs up to 1970. Where did the heater air hoses disappear too??? And there is the "D" code, indicating a 1200 cc engine. This model was never available in the US... Dean pointed out that this VW had a radio antenna, but no radio installed. He was very likely right in assuming that the dealer was unable to get the correct antenna hole block-off plug, when this car was restored in the late 1980's. It was restored with what parts were available through the dealer at that time period. If I owned it, I would have kept all the original German parts, but I guess that was not considered cost effective at the time. Oh well, a cool VW anyway... For historical purposes only, here is one of the last New Beetles available for purchase since they are being phased out again. The engine is in the wrong place with the wrong coolant, so we don't care all that much, do we??? And finally, here was my transport for the day. It may be slow, but I always am smiling when driving it...

Well they moved the thing, the Scirocco, & the Doka out of the showroom today, bound for the basement. The 69 bug, the Ghia are going to the old showroom I think. And the Bus will be staying in the new showroom "so they can keep an eye on it". Most of them started right away and ran like tops, however the bug had to be pushed out of the showroom to be started outside due to an extremely smoky start (rings not set in?) and jumped. I didn't watch the bus being started because the owner has the only key and he wasn't there today. Stan
