I picked up a nice set of NOS GE Halogen H6024 sealed beam headlights at Volksfest for my '74 bus. Unopened boxes, they are: GE H6024 65/35 Watt I see Canadian tire has: Xtravision Sealed Beams, H6024 60/40 Watt I also have in my stash a set of H4 bulbs which are 60/55 Watt The GEs look like standard halogen lamps. My question, what is the maximum safe wattage for Bay Window wiring when it comes to headlights? So can I use these? I think I can as I bought them from a bus owner. [/ur

Sealed beam halogens are a direct replacement.

Sealed beam halogens are a direct replacement. I'll take that as a yes I think I was just splitting hairs on that one, thank you for the reassurance. Good too see you at the show, I'll add my pics soon...

Yup, you can use 'em no problem. You're going to get WAY better night-driving if you swap out your sealed beam lights for a set of Hella H4 conversions though.
All my cars run them (and the '58 has the addition of some LED H4 bulbs, which I probably wouldn't recommend).

Thanks, I was hoping to find some H4 conversions at Volksfest but at least found the NOS GE halogen sealed beams. Before that I had Sylvania sealed beams with no indication that they were halogen so this is a step up. It's good to take apart your headlight assemblies once in a while as they tend to corrode, I grease the little screws when I put them back.

I used to carry a flashlight to augment the highbeam in my 6volt beetle

I have been thinking of installing some to reduce the current through my loom.

OK, I just took the bus out for a night test. The GE halogens mentioned above have a significantly better pattern than the tungsten ones they replaced, and the high beams are definitely much brighter

In fairness, I need to check the aim, but they definitely don't have as clean a cut off as the same lens/housing in the Rally Bug which runs standard halogen H4 bulbs.

Check out brightsource.ca owned and run by Canadians in Vancouver. I have a set of the very, very, early prototype bulbs, and I've noticed that the ones currently carried in stores are slightly different. So I suspect I have either an aiming issue, or that the bulb was updated to fix the issue I have.
