I have an old German Bosch 009 that I have cleaned up and serviced ready to use in my bus. I have just put in a new set of points from Bavarian, but when I set the gap I noticed that it is not the same on all lobes of the distributor. With 0.06mm on one lobe, it is close to zero on the opposite side. There is some very slight axial play when I wiggle the top of the shaft. This was a parts distributor that I got some time ago - I have never run it in an engine of mine.
I expect that the distributor is toast, but before I deep six it, is there anything that I can do to save it?

I would assume the bushings are worn out. Not sure if you can buy these and refurbish it yourself. There is someone on TheSamba who would likely be able to do this; can't think of his name at the moment...
