I have been having some fuel injection issue's so in order to check under the dash for water leaks and check some wiring I had to remove my syock AM radio and after replacing everything I removed I decided to check my radio stash for a different one instead of the AM one I found this nice Blaupunkt AM FM one which I had totally forgot I had. After taking it apart to check the guts I cleaned out the dust and could'nt see anything out of place I decided to test and install. And here it is looking good and working great!!!

So I have been having some issues with my squareback, it cuts out randomly it still runs but has zero power like it's lacking fuel or electrical power so after talking with Russ and reading bentley it seems its a fuel or eletrical problem. I decided to change regulator and found this!! has anyone seen anything like it? And I also found this coneccted to the coil...again, what the hell is it. Connected to the positive side of the coil If you have any info it would be great to know what these two thing do, they are both off now

Maybe those two adjustable resistors are used to give a lower voltage to a 6 volt radio or something like that from a 12 volt system?!?!

I hope you are right Tony cause it may explain the possible low voltage sent to my fuel injection ? And the other one ?

Yes those are voltage drops used to use them on the wipers they get hot.

Well this is good news as they look to be hooked up into the entire system...Yes?

Those resistors look pretty crusty and the connections in the middle of the coils don't look too special either. Hey Rob is everything on that car 12 volts? The black thing may be some kind of filter for removing interference or voltage spikes to help the radio or fuel injection computer or maybe it just looks cool.😎

yes its all 12 volt. Very interesting about the filter idea, maybe I will leave it off and go for a drive with the toons cranked and then do the same with it on hahahaha

That second picture does look like a noise suppressor for the radio. The first picture is certainly some added resistors, but why???

So after a couple test drives after swapping voltage regulators it seems my gremlin has taken a vacation but time will tell if it returns

So I decide to finish refurbishing a 2L bus engine that I knew had a bad main bearing but I wasnt expecting this when I split the case. As you can see the dowl pin has been driven into the bearing in the wrong spot This is how its supossed to look hahahaha. Yowza Also I dont want to use the crank that was in the engine so I found another one but I'm not sure if it's a 2L crank, the only numbers on it are A51 with a VW stamp. Is there a way to check if its for a 2l ? Can I measure somewhere or if someone knows off the top of their head if the casting numbers are correct. I've checked online for an hour with no results.

Oooh, I can answer that one! 2 litre cranks have smaller rod journals than 1700/1800 versions. The journal size is around 50mm for a 2 litre, 55mm for the earlier 1700-1800. Get out you calipers and measure them up!

So I am just about ready to assemble the case. The only thing that concerns me is the bearing sadle on the far right which is a bit shinny, the sadle that had the broken bearing in it. New rings, cylinders honed, the cam is in great shape and now a good cleaning for all.
