Panels are looking great! White shag would be a bit too much. The orange shag that was once in my downstairs bathroom would have been perfect. Too bad I threw it away...

Next time we do woodwork Don will be offered a couple gallons of beer and all the pizza he can eat to try and convince him to come help. I don't know what you are talking about. It looks great! Woodworkers are only as good as the mistakes they hide, LOL. Not that I am saying there are any glaring mistakes in the pics!! Mark has the ticket on dressing up those seams. The light cuts can be filled and painted if you are looking for that finish and not a shag mural Cheers, Don PS I don't need beer(my system no longer handles it well) or pizza(but I wouldn't refrain, lol), just an invite. Don't expect to be left out of the process though because I think we all learn by working together towards a common goal

Ok here's a little update...or should I say big update!! After taking the bus for a longer drive with the doors on we found out that the tranny we chose has a bad howl and I mean really loud howl hahaha so out comes the engine and tranny to replace it. Frig of all the tranny's here we picked the bad one hahahahahha And here is the next choice, a 5 rib instead of a 6, we've cleaned de rusted and changed the oil. And yes I plan on putting in the throw out bearing before installation hahahaha

Will that bell-housing fit your 2 litre flywheel??? Five ribs were 1975 and still 1800's... Are you out of six ribs???

We only have one 6 rib left so its going to be a spare for one of our personal buses (my hightop lol) Im going to put an 1800 flywheel on so everthing will match up nicely. Hopefully after the engine goes back in we can concentrate on finishing the interior and body Does anyone know of someone who rebuilds trannys ? I would hate to just throw this one in the junk pile!!!

I think I only have one spare six rib left as well. I think I will take another look, though. I have actually rebuilt two bus transmissions. One six rib, and one 1968 early bay version. Had help from Bill, my former boss at the time. I think in your case, your old trans is going to have a lot of internal damage being as noisy as it was...

So you are thinking that its so damaged that it may not be worth trying to fix, maybe not being able to source parts or ?

I can't find a picture at the moment. One of the things that happens is one of the bearings pounds itself into the gear carrier housing, causing significant damage. There was a "fix" for this if the damage was not too severe. Otherwise a new carrier was required. The problem with this is setting up the pinion to ring gear properly. If either of these parts was damaged or replaced, then special measuring tools are required to set them up and few individuals have those tools. It was possible to replace some of the bearings without altering the adjustments, but not all of them. Bill used to replace pinion and mainshaft bearings, but I don't think the differential side bearings were usually replaced. Lots of things had to be marked before removal as well. Given how noisy your trans was, I would assume there is a good chance the carrier is heavily damaged. Probably is rebuildable by Rancho or other companies with all the right tools and spare parts...

Thanks for the advice Russ...we will set aside the growling tranny, and not attempt a fix. The 5 rib gearing will better suit the "service bus" for towing anyway.

You can always swap the larger bell-housing from the two litre trans, to utilize your existing clutch and flywheel. (And starter)

To late for that, flywheel and clutch are already installed But I had a hell of a time trying to find M6 fine thread bolts to install the clutch on the flywheel!!! Went through about a dozen tabacco tins of nuts n bolts before we found all 6 of them, holy smolly.
