Ok so finally got the dash out, thought the darned speedo cable was welded on but it finally submitted to an advanced intelligence (and a bigger wrench) and found that one cable had the "bent" end snapped off. Is there a fix for this other than ordering a new cable? Like maybe drilling out the old wire and soldering/crimping in the original wire? (no I'm not cheap, I'm frugal) As well one of the springy things (sorry for the advanced lingo) has disappeared but I can deal with that. Stan

Depending on where it has snapped off, you may or may not be able to crimp and solder things back together. Usually it breaks in the first place due to the cable rusted into the sheathing somewhere underneath, which then causes the cable to bend up near the levers, and then snap off. Fun job, isn't it???

Yah, lots of picky little "fun" jobs left on the Van. working under the dash (I did remember to disconnect the battery first though) is probably the most fun of all. I've never been able to be a contortionist but right now it's a skill that would be handy. Reminds me of trying to make out in a bug back in the day. Stan
