That's a lot of Westy's. Where did they come from?

I only see Vanagons, I hope Islanders get on this one. Spread the word to your Volkswagen friends!

I always thought it was a bold move for a business. Could you imagine trying to maintain a fleet of 30-odd year old vehicles, that are only going to have problems when they're far from home? That's a no from me, Dawg. And he was always looking for the cheapest option when looking for parts. Thin margins, I imagine.

Here's a video by the auctioneer of the 30 Westfalias at what looks like rental HQ. Sad to think the business is gone.

We have had a couple of them through the shop already. One needed and received over $3000 worth of work. The other was deemed not economically viable... My buddy Brian checked them all out at the auction and was not impressed with the condition of any of them...

You can often get cheap Porches and Ferraris etc. at US auctions but they are almost always unuseable because the previous owners didn't keep them up and drove them into the ground. It's estimated that the cost of a really high end car exceeds $20,000/yr.. Often the cost of restoring them to operating condition is above that of a new model. My son has been keeping himself up to date on all of that stuff. I couldn't be bothered. His 911 S needs a new fuel pump, est. cost $5000 when they can get a new one as they haven't any in stock in Kelowna so it's parked until then. Stan

Thus the allure of "higher-end" Hondas and Toyotas. They might not have the cachet of a Porsche, Mercedes, or Ferrari but they're more reliable over time with less upkeep. Plus there are things you can actually do yourself, if so inclined.

I've always said the 911S is basically a useless car, it can only do one thing well. Stan
