This one is a long shot, but I need to figure out moving my '58 Beetle or the German Look from Port Alberni to Delta...while I'm down in California. It's a long shot, but anyone need a ride / ferry one-way to the mainland?
Another idea, if you need to bring something back, would be to borrow my truck and trailer...take my car over, bring whatever you're buying back. I'm not even sure of the Covid restrictions on moving at the moment. I'd cover ferry fees, etc.

Hi Dave. I don't think that the COVID restrictions would allow you to do this. Travel is not yet permitted between health regions for recreational travel and this is in place until 15th June at the moment.

Ironically I can get commercial shipping from Vancouver for the destination I need, but not from Vancouver Island (even if we ignore the cost). Such a pain. I've even looked at buying a Beetle in California to solve the problem, but the money I'm willing to spend doesn't result in a vehicle I'm interested in owning.

Are you leaving our beautiful island, Dave??? No, not at all. I have a Maine event in July that I need a collector car for, and my Driveshare rental options aren't looking too fantastic. So, the answer would be to ship one of my Beetles across...but I need to get it to a spot that it can be shipped from. With the 14-day quarantine requirements, I've run out of time for moving the car myself (if I were to zip back to the island to deal with it.)

So would COVID restrictions actually apply to this kind of thing? I consider what goes/what doesn't go to be a rather murky area. What if you couch it in terms of being part of a business venture, would that change things? If I weren't so bound up with moving, this gig would could fun... Maybe the money you are "willing to spend" would buy a vehicle someone else up here would be willing to own? It would be a gamble of course. Hope it works out for ya.

I may have it sorted, but we'll see. And, to answer your other question. Yes, I could absolutely purchase something that would be appreciated once brought north across the border...but that doesn't really help me down here. I did the Silver Summit a few weeks ago in a '61 Beetle, it was enjoyable...but I realized that I have a style I prefer. So, anything I buy down here means I need to improve the handling, improve the engine, hurt my wallet, and figure out how to do it all without a garage or tools
