So Rob is not wasting any time and is diving right in! This started as pushrod tube seal replacement, but you know how that progresses. Engine is low mileage and looks good so far. We might have to call him TypeThreeRob soon!

Hey thanks for posting pictures Russ When I first bought the car the PO told me it was a rebuild with only about 5K on it and it acually looks that way on the inside. It has 86.5 oversized Kolbenschmidt P&C's which from what Ive read VW Canada put in new exchange engines back in the day. Also I talked to him again about what year the front beam and rear end are so I can order the correct brakes for them and to my surprise he said they were from an 54 split bus!!!! Now I looked for pre 55 bus brakes and couldnt find anything hahaha so I hope his memory isnt so good. Now its get the engine back together and then rebuild carbs. This will be my keeper engine for when find the car I really want which is an early squareback

Rob's latest Type 3 even still has those shields on the heater boxes. Something you do not see everyday anymore... Does not even look rusty, either!

I've never seen those before. Are they specifically for off reading?

Hey Mark Ive never seen them before either so maybe Russ can chime in. And ya they are pretty much rust free, a quick wire brushing and some paint

Ok guys I have a question for ya'll, I have vented heads on the engine from the monster wagon which I've never seen before. There is a port on the top corner of each head and the PO had them blooked off so do I block them off or let them vent by running a hose somewhere? Thanks in advance for the input

Rob is still continuing on with this. Forgot to post these pictures last night... This picture shows the vent tube Rob is talking about at the extreme left of the engine. I have not seen a tube like this before so cannot comment to its purpose. Crankcase venting, I guess...

I searched online for these and found nothing except for debates on samba about crankcase venting through the valve covers which Gene Berg sold at some point or still does. So until I get more info I will block them off.

i have seen that before, more so on t4 motors, since their there run hoses to a breather box, better than having oil come out the front pulley or elsewhere.

Yes Rob I would run hoses to a breather box that is mounted somewhere other than the engine compartment like the firewall above the trans or to a air cleaner. It will keep all that oil and condensation from setting on your engine compartment.
